Might be wrong like warrior says could be 1/2bsp actually

If it works then yeah it's very easy with bsp stuff readily available :)

Don't want to raise anything over the level of the header tank though...

So at the weekend she was just about to hit the 1000miles mark since the engine rebuild, Oil change time!
Seemed clean enough.. no nasty flakes of metal ect... chuffed!

I thought seeing as it was its 1st milestone I'de give her a wash too... inside not out :D
Going to stick the rubber chequer plate down in the foot wells. (which I brought ages ago!)

Hi Mark haven't checked in on your build for a while.. Top quality end product mate!! Kudos!! .... I noticed earlier in your build you got some checker plate rubber matting. I just wondered how you got on with it, and if you did end up sticking it in or just left it down loose?

I'm in two minds, it would be easier to clean if they are removable but I can't stand mats that move around when you driving. . Let alone trying to clamber in and out at all sorts of angles.
so I think for me it would be best if they are stuck in!
I plan to use tigerseal and roller it with a plastic roller so the entire mat is stuck and water tight.
It was rather easy to cut to shap too.. only took 20min, I'll take a few snaps when I stick them..

Yeah I think my biggest fear with sticking them down is trapping water.... I had wondered about modding a couple of sets of these or making up something similar.
1 Kit- CAR FLOOR MAT FIXING CLIPS / HOLDERS - SKODA, VOLKSWAGEN, SEAT, AUDI, BMW | eBay

They could be secured by gluing small pieces of carpet in, or cutting the screw bit off and gluing directly to the floor. The mats could then be removed for washing out... If you could find metal ones even better.

Yea I agree trapped water is the problem, but if tigerseal was applied to the entire underneath of the matt it would protect it.

you could make something up frim metal.
Weld in some nuts under the floor and use some bolts to secure the matts, coach bolts have a very low profile head which would work well.

Yeah I was thinking the same... It would be more secure. I didn't know if those plastic things would be tough enough to put up with the day to day climbing in and out. Also if I have to do any welding etc it would be nice to be able to lift the mats... Def be great to see some pics once you've done it. :)

Seeing as there are no carpets the plastic ones would be very proud and prone to being knocked.
The welding point is very valid, I think the only problem to overcome is the risk of tearing the rubber, would be worth thinking about reinforcing the area around the hole somehow.

For the bolts I was thinking something like ones of these.

50Pcs 304 Stainless Steel Flat Round/ Truss Head Screw W Cross Recessed M5X30 | eBay

M3 M4 M5 M6 M8 A2 STAINLESS HEX SOCKET FLANGED BUTTON HEAD ALLEN BOLTS SCREWS | eBay

Stainless def the way to go... One way that might avoid it tearing is using more bolts with good size washers? However that increases the number of holes in the floor. Another way could be cutting squares of rubber where the holes are going to be and gluing them together to make it double thick. The matting I was looking at on the line was 3mm thick so that would make it 6mm which is pretty chunky. How thick is yours?..... :drum:....

I'm pretty sure mine is only like 1.5mm, the only down side of adding around the bolts whether it be metal or rubber is making lots of lumps on the floor.

Hmmmm :scratching_chin:.. How much area are you putting the matting down on. Ie: Just the foot wells or everywhere?

just in the front footwells, only have front ones ;)
The rear is just for storage anywho

OH yeah.... :doh::doh::doh::doh::doh:

Sorry so busy thinking about mats I forgot what you were putting them in.... Feel like a right d*%k.. :5bblush5:

Anyway I would say in light of this new information... that I never had before... (cough)... If your not running it up under the pedals then 4 reinforced fixings would do it. The back side you could even lift the drivers seat and use that to pin it down and then thats only two fixings at the pedal end. Maybe run a small strip along the door sill to keep that down?

If you just think about the pain it will be if you just need to do a little welding and the mat is completely stuck down... tiger sealed ... it would be a nightmare to remove. If you try a strip first at least you still have the option of sticking it down....

Lil guessing game for you lovely lot, the winner gets 20 Scott Mills points :)

What are these from and what's the plan?
