Well got it bolted in now should that roter be pointing to the number 1 spark plug ?, as when looking down the hole earlier it looked that way but when fixed in and looking from the top it seems to be inbetween the 2 end plugs, but depends which angle you look at it, the mark is right on the flywheel. couple of pics,. third pic on other side is that the order of plugs 1342 ?

Bloody hell how thick am I .
So does it look about right ? I have the leads which are numbered, was going to put them in but couldn't see any numbers on top of the black cap to match them too.
I also have the coil but not sure where it goes yet.

Yep looks right. Plug lead #1 goes on the one the rotor arm is pointing at then 3 4 2 anti clockwise.
The coil goes on the bulkhead on the passenger side, with the connections at the bottom

Check the rotor is sound and the dizzy weights move freely, but return too..

With everything right, you should be able to turn the rotor arm and you should feel the spring, it should spring back positively and not feel slack. You shouldn't be able to turn it backwards

Thanks Everyone, forgot to I say I shoved this in that hole and tightened 2 bolts, hope I done it right.

It came already painted by MOD Mate, I just tried to tidy it up with another couple of coats, Not sure if or what the Army guys might have put underneath.

Right Sorry everyone but its Alternator Next, I really need to try and get over to Blackburns for the bracket he has for me.
Now one thing I realized and its really annoying me is that I bought a brand new alternator expecting it to come complete with front pulley but the bloody thing has no pulley.
Wouldnt you think they would sell them with it on, even if they charged more money, seems pointless to me.

Alternators are used on lots of different vehicles.
So when you change them, it is usual to fit the pulley from your vehicle on the new alternator.
That way, you can use the same fanbelt, and the new alternator spins at the right speed.

Right think I understand now, there was no pulley with this one, well it would have been on the 24 volt one I sold, now I need to find out which pulley I need.
Nothings ever bloody straightforward :(

Paddock are usually pretty good. If they say it is the one, it probably is.

Make sure you get a key with it as well.
I have not asked them yet, but when I asked if the alternator and starter motor would fit a military engine they said they couldn't be sure as they don't sell military stuff.
Ive just googled it and this part number
568788
is for 2.25 petrol or diesel.
What is the key for ?
