NO!!!
Especially not used engine oil, which will be full of metallic particles and will probably f@@k up your injection system especially common rail, which can be fussy and bloody expensive to replace. IMHO.
You're running your TD4 on veg? I always understood the common rails didn't like veg oil? There is a web site dedicated to veg oil/bio use and all the info on there seems to be to avoid the common rail engines?
how long you been using it, no probs?

Been running my TD5 on used engine oil for more than three years with no probs. Filtration is the key to success.

nope, the ad was for a 6cylinder TD5, I think he may have it wrong.
On the plus side my TD4 is now fine, changed the fuel filter and its back to normal, perhaps the engine oil I used was to thick?

I was running on no more than 20% oil, would start fine just no power. now I've changed the filter and its ok im tempted to try again

Running 20% oil would have had no noticable effect on power. You must have had another problem. I run 50% mix with no loss of power or torque.

A friend of mine had a 200tdi engine, and used biodiesel. It knackered his engine so he had it rebuild (piston rings gone I think...?)
He then tried it again as he was told that different rings were installed to cope with the higher acidity of biodiesel (once again, ???) but it still knackered his engine.
He now steers clear of biodiesel and uses ordinary diesel from the pump.
But he may have had an unlucky couple of times...
Another friend of mine uses clean veg oil put through a heat exchange to make it less viscous, but only when the engine is hot. He has never had a problem with his engine, but he is a very highly qualified mechanic who knows engines inside out!!!

Hi Mr Shifty, this is in a TD4 freelander tho? some else posted common rail engines don't like used engine oil, I'm bowing to your much greater (than mine) knowledge on this:clap2:

I have no experience of the TD4 engines but my Volvo is a common rail and it runs just fine.
