Out of interest, where are you? If you are close to me I don't mind coming and giving you a hand. But if not I am sure there are other members who would come and give you a hand.

Bedford Thanks for the offer but its a bit of a trek. This is turning into a right F*CK up. nothing fits so far. (timing kit & airbox to turbo hose) Looks like all my research wasn't enough.
Can anyone confirm its a disco engine from the engine number? before it turns out to be a 19J afterall. Just looked and its 12L 26742 A

Should I be safe with the defender air filter, oil filter and fuel filter?

Thanks again guys

Oil and fuel will be fine, not sure about the air. I suspect you may not have a standard 200Tdi filter as from what I can see of your engine bay it is upright in the N/S corner, which is the same place as a N/A or a TD filter (not 100% sure of the TD position). These filters are cartridge type filters but they are smaller than the 200Tdi Defender or Discovery ones, but I can't be sure. If you want to take pics of all the aspects of your engine bay then I might be able to tell you more.

it looks from the picture like a reasonably good conversion though, so that is a good start!

have a look at this link
Yours is not a TD, and it is not a Defender 200Tdi. With the inlet manifold on the top, like the 300Tdi in this link, it is a Discovery 200Tdi.

Some pictures of the airbox and the new and old filters. Obviously the new one is a defender 200tdi one but the only difference I can see is the rubber base seal is a slightly different diameter. I cant see this being a problem. Plus sending the wrong parts back will be a lot cheaper without packaging up the filter kit.

The eagle eyed among you may well notice the source of my problems from the state of the cockpit.

Does anyone know, or can point me in the right direction of the part number for the hose that goes from the turbobo to the airbox. On a 200tdi DISCO engine.

Unless you are going to use that hose on a Discovery it isn't going to be any help to you. The airbox is in a different place on a Discovery to yours and the pipe is fairly rigid.

Sounds like you have a lot more issues than just the timing pin...

The air hose was rotten and had holes in it. It was only when I took the airbox out that I noticed. The defender one doesn't fit so I thought a disco one might. But I see what you are saying now with the airbox where it is I probably cant use a standard one. I'll have to see about making something up.

I'm off to the lakes for the rest of my week off, it will be nice to not have to worry about the truck for a while. Then I can come back fresh and sort this mess out.

Thanks for all your help tetsu0san if your ever down this way I owe you a pint.

yeah

I've just sent an email to paddock with a picture of my drowning 110 to hopefully persuade them to take back the wrong parts

Oh, of course, that was yours! I saw your drowned 110 on a thread, now it all makes sense.

Are you sure you haven't done any damage with all that water?

I don't think so. But is there anything else I should look for? It drove for the rest of the day fine, then conked out on the way home. Presumably when the belt snapped.

If the engine ran OK until it went pop on the way home then I suspect all you will have is bent valves. If you had done more damage from drowning it you would have known at the time. Hydro-locking the engine would have possibly caused bent conrods, headgasket failure etc but that would have run rough as balls straight away.

Water in the turbo also shouldn't be an issue if the turbo is good.

But if your breathers on the axles and gearboxes are perished then you may have water ingress there. Just check to make sure the breathers are secure and that the water level didn't come up past them.

Finally got round to fitting the new timing belt today despite the weather. It actually went surprisingly well and she coughed and spluttered into life after a few tries. Unfortunately she lost a lot of her fluids all over the floor. Still a few ends to tie up and I need to find somewhere I can get some hose for my turbo. But it was a brilliant day turning spanners, I could to get into this land rover owners lark.

It is my dads drive and he was standing there telling me to keep it turning over as it was flooding out. I'm free of blame

So first drive this morning just warm the oil up. Everything seemed ok, but I'm no expert. Perhaps a little less power :s

Once the warm I planned to Change the gearbox oil. On taking out the second drain plug, the first dropped in the bucket , I found this.

is this to be expected or should alarm bell be ringing?
