The only time I have had a diagnostics check on it's own they charged £30. If I have asked them to check something while doing other work there is no seperate charge only £45 per hour, mostly 1 hour work or less in total for what they have done.

The most labour they charged was 2 hours to change a BECM complete with all locks and reprogram and this was after they had spent well over an hour in the first place diagnosing the faulty BECM with no bill for that.


On another note. back to the subject, I emailed the contact on the Lynx Information site from Britparts, and just got a reply back saying the Lynx is NOT VIN locked after all but it is unlocked for ONE model. Will have to see if they can clarify that a bit more.
Much like the Nanocom then, except you still need a laptop/tablet with the Lynx.

Think what? VIN locking has nothing to do with the diagnostics being based on any other system it is effectively a stand alone front end software module that reads and compares the VIN.

As in it won't be locked to one if the same car engines type :)

cant own a range rover and then complain about the costs that go with owning one :rolleyes:

Actually, I've found my old Range Rover surprisingly cheap to run. Although, I commute into London each day by train so not using it much certainly helps. I've owned a few TVRs in the past, try one of those if you want to experience high running costs!! :D

I agree with that a pal of mine was unfortunate to own a vixen until it broke him :D He was near Blackpool where I think the cars were made

At £250 direct I'm tempted, but looks from the PDF like HVAC, SRS and Gearbox support is 1998 onwards and mine's '97 :mad:

It does however say unlocked for one Land Rover 'model' - although VIN used to unlock - that makes me think all P38 HSE's with GEMS in my case...

It means specific to your car and your car only. It would have to be an open system to do others.

AFAIK any nanocom will read the ancillary systems of other "engined" Range Rovers - it is locked for the engine/emissions stuff. Which is quite useful.

Your right. My nanocom actually has three licenses unlocked for the P38. One for body elec, One for the diesel engine and the last one is for the Thor engine. Before I got my license for the Thor engine (I purchased the unit second hand already unlocked for diesels and body elec) I could read the body elec systems ok just got locked out of the engine ECU.

Asked via online contact form at Lynx Diagnostics before work this morning, but as yet no reply. Not a particularly impressive start from a sales/support perspective and potential new customer, new product etc. I'll advise if/when I get an answer - perhaps they're so busy with sales that they've not had time... :rolleyes:
 
Wow Britpart bashing never gets old! Of course its their own fault, their own brand stuff was really rather bad, especially moulded plastics which were often out of spec. But they listened to the feedback from forums like ours and revamped the product range, specs, sourcing etc. and came back with a 24 month guarantee on most of it but clearly the damage is done. FYI you don't have to buy the own brand stuff, they do also carry 3 other ranges - Genuine LR, OEM and Pattern. If you buy Britpart its because you want the cheapest you can get. But anyone who buys a part that should cost £300 for £30 and then is surprised it doesn't last as long or work as well, come on. And just a comment on their service, I don't know how many here have actually dealt with them directly because they only deal with trade. Because my car is in Bangladesh and parts are hard to come by, some other LR owners and I organise group-buys. We source from Britpart, Bearmach and Ramaco, three of the biggest consolidators of LR parts. Service and support from all three is great, from Britpart it goes above and beyond. Thoroughly professional, very fast and very customer-oriented. We've had them replace parts on a phone call, not even bothered about getting the faulty unit back. With something quite expensive like an alternator that didn't work out of the box they sent one out by DHL at THEIR expense and said "lets get the car running first and then worry about returning the faulty part to us". So anyway, just thought I'd share my experience of them. Of course own-brand stuff is never going to be as good as OEM. Big surprise.

Last week I took the plunge and purchased a Britpart Omitec Lynx for my Rangy. I followed all the steps in faxing/ emailing user codes, and my vin number. I obtained an activation code for my single home use. To date I have been unable to use it despite numerous emails and calls between Omitec and the dealer as the program refuses to let me in to activate the product, and consequently I am locked out from using it. Yesterday the product was returned to the dealer, with me expressing my disgust at Omitec, for their very poor after sales service. To date neither dealer or Omitec have come up with a solution to the issues I've had, or offered to supply a replacement, or given me a refund for the £299.99 shelled out. I tried the program on 3 different laptops, one running winxp, one running vista, and one running win7. I am quite savvy on a pc, and have tried all sorts of ways to get to the activation menu, and likewise my dealer has tried the same.
All I can say is that I cannot at this time recommend the Omitec Lynx. If and when I may get a working product, I can then review it.

Its not "Fit for Purpose", (ie: does not do what it says on the tin) contact the Dealer/****part and demand your money back then go elsewhere.

I found Omitec a difficult company to deal with. My Hawkeye is by them via Bearmach and basically Omitec doesn't give a sh*t. Bearmach however have been pretty helpful.
