You know you want too:D
Price dependant, Quality dependant....Britpart are not known in the best light for mechanical components - wtf are they going to be like with Complex Diagnostic Tools....plug it in and you may find your Transfer Box ECU now thinks it's a Toaster and the EAS ECU has become a very expensive Paper weight....

I will wait for Lynx Mk3 when all the bugs are gone!

Datatek could you enlighten me please .
If for instance this new machine is locked to say a vin number how does it determine that is plugged into another car of its same type say a diesel is the vin stored somewhere ? For instance what if someone has changed their becm and ecu are these that hold the knowledge ??

Vin numbers are stored in the BCM / BECM and the instrument pack

When plugged in to the car it reads the vin everytime you plug in and confirms if its the right car or not

On the P38 the VIN is stored only in the BECM, so if you change the BECM, unless the job is done properly the VIN will be wrong.
Faultmate is undoubtedly based on LR/Omitec up to a point, but neither offer BECM direct access as far as I'm aware. I would not say that Faultmate is riddled with bugs as far as the P38 is concerned, I've found 2 which have been rectified, so far, I know of no others. The L322 version may be different in that respect, I do not know.

The best thing with Nanocom is it's size and portability. I leave it in a nice waterproof box in the spare wheel well. With the Britpart one, you'd have to carry a laptop around with you everywhere you went. I bet you never get an EAS fault whilst the car is parked up outside your house so you can nip in and get your kit. It'll always be whilst you are out in it :)

I don't know how they work but it would be nice if it were possible to have a pass-through to the USB so that you could have both.

G~

I carry a 10" Netbook running XP and the RSW All Comms software in a small aluminium Flight Case in the boot stowage compartment for those on the go issues!

If someone released a diagnostic suite and sold it for 150 quid or under they'd make a killing IMO.

I wish someone would, whereas the £300+ ones would be very handy at time I just could not justify the outlay for one .... but for £150 it would be a very tempting price.

At the moment it is a 3 mile trip up the road to a good local indie (Durham 4x4) so not far to go but they are usually busy so it is getting it booked in at short notice.

Do how much does your local Indy charge for a session on their diagnostics ??

The only time I have had a diagnostics check on it's own they charged £30. If I have asked them to check something while doing other work there is no seperate charge only £45 per hour, mostly 1 hour work or less in total for what they have done.

The most labour they charged was 2 hours to change a BECM complete with all locks and reprogram and this was after they had spent well over an hour in the first place diagnosing the faulty BECM with no bill for that.

On another note. back to the subject, I emailed the contact on the Lynx Information site from Britparts, and just got a reply back saying the Lynx is NOT VIN locked after all but it is unlocked for ONE model. Will have to see if they can clarify that a bit more.

Considering how little P38s are worth these days a diagnostic unit for 400 odd quid could be a quarter of the cost of the whole vehicle! Hence why I won't buy one. However, if something was released that was a bit cheaper then I'd go for it.
