Fantastic, cheers mate! Just watched the first 5 parts, I'm gonna need a vice :D
I could do this as I watch the vids, he's a goldmine that bloke.

What can I use as a cleaner other than paraffin?
Hoping to get the rear done this weekend, confidence boost hopefully before I tackle fronts :)

I use diesel its safer, not keen on the fumes from petrol etc, and I enjoy a smoke etc then buzz off with quick squirt of brake parts cleaner etc
Either will do and are cheaper per ltr than any proprietary degreaser you can buy off the shelf. get yourself one of those big hoppa storage box bin things from wilkinsons etc proper job!

its easy, if you do on a bench with a chair and in good light etc, just leave as is, and rtn to it when you like, take your time and enjoy it!
IMO however on your knees outside etc in direct sunshine or snow becomes a chore and not as enjoyable, either way it sucks, and just seems to make things harder, i guess I spent so long doing 'kerbside' mechanics I love my garage / workshop too much!

I've got a decent space in the garage So I'll use it definitely

I might be getting mixed up with earlier axle, setting end float with washers or shims?
im not sure what you mean the cv is held by shims and a circlip, wheel bearings are adjusted till play is just removed despite what the book says, earlier axles use 2 nuts and later one nut and predetermined selectable spacer

Must've dreamt it then never mind

Rear shocks arrived to so got those fitted after work. All the judder has gone on take up of drive, just a slight clunk in transmission now, the axle must've been bouncing like ****. Not surprised, the old shocks and bushes were rattling by hand.
Am surprised at how much difference a couple of shocks have made though, I thought I'd have more clunk due to halfshafts not being done yet.
Just had email, rear props due tomorrow at 4pm :D

Rear half shafts done this morning
Someone's had a chisel on this I think

Packed the seating ring for the dust cap with grease as well, can't hurt it maybe make a bit of a seal.
Went a bit mad with the copper grease

Sealy black series £35 off the bay. 25 - 210nm iirc.

Couldn't really show wear in pics but plenty of shiny bits on half shaft splines and I couldn't even get the sliding end off the old prop  judder seems to have cleared up loads but whether that's because I've been driving it and burnt off possible contamination of clutch I'll have to see. Or trans brake is sticking. Can't wait to get stuck into the front end :)

What cake did you have? I had classic Victoria sponge, homemade buttercream as well very nice :D

Currently at my mates watching him **** about with a big stick welder

Before and after of engine clean

20180721_140330.jpg

This was last weekend, been driving it all week checking for leaks periodically, no sign on top half of engine
Must've been a right messy oil change in the past, spilt new oil on refill and never cleaned up

Weird last night, driving to work did 75mph overtaking a foreign wagon (normally sit at 65 on motorway seems to like it)
Came off just after, setting off from lights at bottom of slip road I had a strange intake whoosh when turbo was kicking in. Stopped when changing gear, only happened when accelerating. Was really loud like a truck.
Didn't do it on way home this morning, but had a good look and wiggle of all the pipes and got the missus to rev it while I checked any pipes weren't collapsing but as I say it wasn't making the noise anymore. Did the same when i pulled up at work with a colleague revving it when it was still whooshing even not under load. Nothing obvious happening.
Stuck wastegate cuz I had to give it some beans for a short while?

Swivel seal kits and bearing kits (timken) picked up from craddocks Monday. Got 5 new wheel nuts cuz some of mine were rusted and caps were deformed. Also new air filter cuz why not. £39 all in with a discount for working in the trade :D

give the wastegate a good dose of Plusgas (engine cold unless you want to falmbae your face!)
get wiggling, n squirting ( disconnect from wastgate actuator of course) it needs to auto return usual prob is it sticks open a bit causing the sound you describe!
Once free and returning by itself, it may benefit from some lube every now and again i use PMA on steering UJ's and a squirt on the wastegate return mechanism not have the prob since i have been doing that, works for me!

New rear bump stops fitted today, nothing left of old ones. Didn't want to do kelmarsh off road without em. Don't think it'll be that extreme but rather not have the axle casing smash into the chassis.

Need to look at potential sticky wastegate but I've run out of penetrating spray. Again.
