Now need a buddy to come help lift the head off.

Head's off:
IMG_20140626_172555.jpg

Cylinder's 2, 1 (1 on right), a fair bit of sooting on the piston head:
IMG_20140626_172559.jpg

Cylinder's 4, 3, 2 (4 on left), some oil leaked out the head as we lifted it off, so has been wiped out of pot 4.
IMG_20140626_172603.jpg

Cylinder's 5, 4 - the bits in 5 are some soot from the gasket.

Underside of the head:
IMG_20140626_172653.jpg

Underside of the head, cylinder 1, 2 (glowplug on 1 is caked in white, so knackered I think), also looks to be some brown scorching next to one of the coolant channels on pot 1, dunno if that's burnt coolant?

Underside of the head pots 4, 3, 2:

Underside pots 5,4

Completely delaminated HG:

Pot 1 close up of the sooting:

Pot 1 after attacking the sooting a bit with scotchbrite and WD, coming up a treat:

The plastic dowels that were in, left is the back one:
IMG_20140626_173625.jpg

And the next job to fix, broken chain tensioner guide:
IMG_20140626_173630.jpg

Next job is to strip down the head.

gasket was leaking on no5 at least, was it pressurising coolant system, a clean piston compared to rest can be sign of coolant entering cylinder

Ha, if you have one I'll take it, needs to be for 10P engine though :D

Let me know what you drink/what you want for them in PM...

Ah, Not sure if it was a 10p or 15p to be honest.
Don't want anything for it, So you can just take it and see.

Do you know the difference? I'll go find it and take a pic in a mo.

Good grief, you have been a Busy Bennehboy!

Please correct me if I am wrong on this, but weren't all the revised parts on the 15P "backwards compatible" with the 10P?

Here's hoping that head is nice and flat.

Yeah that's 10p. Nice one.

15p parts are backward compat but you have to swap out the entire assembly, chain, sprockets, guides...

Never expected LR to use a roller rocker set up.......at least they didn't skimp on one of the engines cam design!

Would have been nice if the V8 was a roller rocker

Can't believe how nadgered they got from some coolant, but then I don't know much about how coolant can retard lube.

Was nicely surprised to get a used matching set for 50 notes, was almost £700 for new.

? have you never noticed what followers 2.25 petrol an diesel use ,plus your 2.5s and tdis

I've never taken any 2.25's apart nor have I had the inclination to dismantle my 300 while it still runs nicely

Assumed 2.25's were standard steel rockers like the RV8 with non roller tips
