TD5 uses the hi/lo switch on the tbox to determine what fuelling table and throttle response to use.

Fair point, though still on my 90 there was a definite increase in power in low range I was tackling obstacles, climbs and such. It was much easier once it was mapped and doing it without hitting max revs

Because I bought the turbo from him, came as a package for a very reasonable price plus read many good things and though it would be worth a go! I messaged him hes coming next week to sort the little issues plus the new MAP sensor.

Jose's tunes are AFR based so better than Mike's which to my knowledge are still injection duration based.

Back from another trip to Marquenterre, great as always but fraught with breakdowns! A D1 kept popping rear springs and a tyre, a 90 had the rear springs come out completely even with retainers and dislocation cones, a Ninety blew a rear shock and I blew a front diff!

Few from the weekend -

With us lot it is tradition to buy 'presents':p

Sadly the video was taken just after the diff blew, still sounds awesome though

You can see the front wheels still but the rears are flying, there was a bang but it wasnt that loud, I assumed it was a spring relocating or similar...

Not sure why it would have happened though, I've been in worse situations and escaped. Only thing I did notice was when I checked the oils before I left the front diff oil was black and the rear diff oil was clean (looked almost new).

I did have difflock in the whole day bar when I was on tarmac/simple tracks. Usually I switch it on and off constantly. Going to start stripping it tonight, try and find exactly what broke..

Some pics that dont involve a breakdown.....

There was a Nissan there too! and a Willys Jeep!

Were you nose down and in reverse when the diff popped by any chance?

Nope was almost level, nose slightly down (front left wheel buried & slightly cross axled) in 2nd low.

Got cracking swapping the diff last night, tiresome work! The drivers side hub assembly split from the axle with relative ease, calliper, top swivel pin, ABS sensor and rear track rod all came off with ease. Though the front track rod is stuck! No amount of hammering the bar would budge it so I need to get a ball joint separator, cracked off and loosened all the swivel/axle bolts though.

Splines on the short half shaft look fine, just got to check the CV moves freely.

Spare diff I had looks in good condition, spins freely and there doesnt appear to be any play or noises coming from it when spun by hand. So thats good news! New bolts & gaskets en route, should arrive by Weds/Thurs.

Should have the long shaft & hub off this evening and start on the diff removal.

Diff is off! So easy! Literally 1000 times easier than when i took the front off my 90.

All the nuts came off with ease, no issues there.

Splines on both shafts look good, no damage. Pics tomorrow!

Annnnd for the diff. Fff-ucked the planetry gears exploded and damaged everything else! Got pics :)

All off! TF springs are just shocking.

Splines where caked in a metal/oil/sludge  Cleaned it all off with a brush n brake cleaner but are intact and undamaged, far as I can tell...

Theres even a few chunks out of the crown wheel! Safe to say its good n f ucked!

Got new diff - axle nuts, new stub - axle bolts, new gaskets, some RTV and a 14mm ratchet spanner should all arrived tomorrow and finished tomorrow night.

New diff is on!!! Christ its heavy

Couldnt do anything else as the amazing UKMail delivered my bolts somewhere on my road just not my bloody house :mad::mad::mad:

And ive lost all the prop bolts that came off and need new ones. Why the hell did LR use bloody imperial bolts!? Guessing i can just use M10s in place?

Hubs are back on, ish, used one old bolt to hold em in place while i wait for new ones.

Bolts arrived an hour ago via Royal Mail, UKMail postie clearly wanted a day off and delegated his deliveries...

And the Silverline ratchet spanner broke after doing up half a bolt. Thats going back, different one on order.

BUT hubs are on (with 2 old bolts for the time being), re-filled with grease, calipers are on and diff is on.

Get the rest done Sunday, then off to Germany for a bit (not driving) and MAP adjustment when I get back!

Also changed the turbo - manifold gasket as it was leaking quite badly! Easy to change though :)
