im going on a long, long journey in my disco. and want to find as many ways as possible to increase mpg, no suggestion too small. the more imaginative the better.
obviously things like air filter etc i know but specific suggestions would also much appreciated.

full service
no cat
no egr
proper airfilter
keep to 56-60mph
no roofrack
windows shut
aircon off
constant speed whenever possible
no hard accelerating
look at the road ahead and plan your next move
tyre pressures

cant think of any more

I used to get from Canterbury to just outside of Lincoln which is about 188 miles on quater tank. driving about 65-68 MPH, which for a disco aint to bad. just hurts a little when you go to the pump. 90 litre tank @ £1.18 per litre.

I get about 30 mpg out of my td5 es auto on a good run & it doesn't make much difference between 60 & 90mph.
Regular servicing, good tyres & powerful magnets strapped on the fuel line help

:hysterically_laughi yes of course and while your getting the magnets add some snake oil and a hiclone will help too :doh:

Good Tyres!!! Does that mean it's a Discovery GT ?

ok I can understand the Servicing but what do the magnets do? Do they make the fuel change in a wierd degree or just help keep the crap out?

I got some i'll sell ya:D Hardly used, mint condition, if you want them, i'll get the magnetism topped up for free:D:D make sure you fit the the right way round or your mpg will go down not up:D:D:D

i hate to say this as i know im putting myself up for a beating on this but...... fuel magnets do work ive had them on many oilburners and all have shown an improvement !
yes i know theres plenty who say there just a **** take ect but i have seen the pro side and the improvement citroen xm 2.5 td average mpg before fitment was 32mpg combined after was 35 mpg so not the huge improvements they spout but over time pays for itself and then some

bollix

but being open to opinions how do they save you money? do you not think part of your saving was the fact you just spent on some magnets and were then aware of your driving (drive more carefully = better mpg)
