So, think we found out Georges misfire problem... MAF done. That's fine, ordered a replacement. Not a cheapo, a Bosche one at 135 quid

So, did the lads primary school sports day PA (public address horns for , well, public address) and so on. Then had to return mates 6x3 gazebo. However, coming home from that, George's EAS went tits up :(

Motor hot enough to cook a hundred eggs on. But clearly only the piston needs attention (assume it's silicone or such like). What else causes the EAS system to do the 35mph thing? I realise there are "O" rings need replacing, but where??

Sorry, George has lasted a long time, but now I am facing another operation, I need to have her fixed asap (not to mention I have her booked in for a test tomorrow, but now need to cancel). So, quickest fix???

She's mostly been fine, but last few weeks, I have noticed she wasn't always as I left her (I mostly always leave her full height). Recently, she's been really REALLY slow to raise.

Found the piston "seal" is shite so assume it needs replaced.

Where else do I need to go??

Sounds like the pump has fried. You need a full kit which should include . Cyinder . O ring . Piston ring and the non return valve . Then you need to reset the eas .

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Flaming USELESS photobucket

Tried time & again to re-post photo's!

Seems the pump is in excellent condition. Took it apart and ONLY found piston seal is gubbed.

What else do I need to replace?

I am thinking "O" rings, but where?

Feckin photobucket shiiiite :(

Lookin at the photosi think you have stripped it bit to far. Put the motor back together it should be ok. Its the piston and cylinder thats the probem. Change all the parts at that end that come in the kit. The pump shut down and whent into hard fault because it got hot. It will require a reset to start it again.

That was my thought/ I took it apart to see if it "was" the pump that went wrong, but fairly certain it is in good condition.

As you see, brushes in good order (and "kirby grips" excellent way to hold brushes in place during re-build). Piston seal a bit fecked.

Piston seal a lot fecked. Get the full 4 part kit on fleebay. Piston ring. Piston cylinder. Small o ring and a must the non return valve. On very close inspection the non return has probably split causing the pump to over run and frying the piston ring and then scoring the cylinder cos the ring whore out. Does that make sence. Cos it got hot the thermal switch cut out and hence the hard fault 35 mph on bump stops and pump stoped requiring a reset

Just be careful you don't nick the seal as you fit the cylinder.
I got a full seal kit including all orings for the valve block for only a few quid more than the one for just the compressor.
There's also an oring in the cylinder head that needs replacing and check that the reed valve seats properly on it and is clean. If the reed valve do not work well the pump still will work overtime.
Took me about an hour to do my pump and it's been fine since.

I took the whole thing apart, ONLY piston ring seems done. Reed's look fine, no splits or cracks in either. The pump doesn't look as old as the car (which is 17 years old).

The valve block is my concern, is it where the pump attaches to via pipe?

I know I seem thick as, but I will be happy to replace "O" rings and other bits. She due test on 28th, was booked in early tomorrow... Gutted.

The reeds might look OK but they seal against an oring which WILL be goosed. The pump refurb kit I got had new one in it so daft not to do it whilst it's in bits.

Funny thing, the car ALWAYS stayed full height (I always park it that way), but only last few weeks (the car sat at full height while we were in Spain 24th May to 3rd June) has she started falling. Last few days has been worst. Real slow at coming up, sometimes overnight she would drop a few mm or even inches.

Anyway, I can see the piston seal is utterly gubbed. Clearly it would be silly to NOT replace the reed seals, but what are they made of? The metal bits seem ok!!

There is a thick metal "stop" and the thin metal reed underneath. The thin metal buts up to the oring hundreds of times per minute so it's the oring that goes hard and flat. Pop a new one in and it'll be fine.
Does sound like you might have a leak in a bag or a line sonewhere. Have you pulled the delay relay to see if it still drops overnight?

No, never felt the need!

All new Dunlop airbags last May! She always performed properly. Just last few times she's been a bit wonky.

Where about in the reeds will I find the tiny "O" ring?

One job at a time. Pump referb. Then look for other probs. You may end up with a totally fecked system
