Been 'window shopping' today for bits:

Valve stem oil seals (x8)£4.50
Valve springs (x8) £17.20
Elring head gasket (3 hole) £20
OEM head bolts £24
Valve stem caps (x8) £6
Valve lapping kit (paste and tool) £6

So all of that for £77.70

Have i missed anything out??

I'll check the head with a straight edge but as it hasn't got HOT it should be ok

Right................ Have had a think about what i'm going to do!

The engine that is in the 90 at the minute has done over 190k, it smokes (blue) from the exhaust all the time, it breathes heavy from the rocker cover and dipstick tube, tiny bubbles in the coolant, oil pressure quite low even with 20w50 engine oil, not sure when the timing belt was last done......

So i have sourced a replacement 300tdi from a defender with 90k on it to transplant :)
I haven't done an engine change before but someone i know is going to lend me his garage and engine hoist and a pair of hands to help :)

I might need a few pointers on the best way to do the engine change, have done loads of searches but not found much info so have been reading the Haynes :)

Will have my current engine up for grabs cheap - if some one fancies a rebuild project (once i've swapped em over)

defender enginwe is same as disco. you'll need to weld on front engine mount and swap flywheel housing over. if ya keeping the LT77 gearbox.

personally i like to fit 300 tdi as lr did but means changing floor plates tunnel and both props (front one then becomes same as disco front )it makes all other parts std then

I haven't got a disco anymore ive got a 90 now - just stuck with the discovery forum name :)

(is there anyway of changing it to Defender90-Daz??)

Yep fit new rear crank oil seal while it's out! and check clutch arm and clutch obviously, the clutch push rod has a habit of wearing through the clutch arm.

i know your fitting it in a def,300tdi in a defender as lr did it ,fits the same in relation to front axle as disco is all i meant, so props become the same you dont have to fit it that way just a suggestion ,but it is better imo

Yep good idea mate! I've got a new heavy duty clutch arm and release bearing ready to go on. Will change the crankshaft oil seal too - cheers!

Oh ok i see, its already fitted with a 300tdi from the factory and will be replaced with an engine from a defender of the same year. Already got TDCI wide angle props fitted front and rear - so just a case of 1 out and 1 in :)

okay my mistake ,it was mention of lt77 that confused me:)

When the engine arrives i'll be doing:

Timing belt upgrade kit with new belt
New 'p' gasket
New water pump
New thermostat
New rear crankshaft oil seal
New heavy duty clutch arm
New clutch release bearing
New rad hoses
EGR blank plate

Busy - busy :)

Intercooler has already been done a couple of weeks ago...... will do the inlet manifold when the engine arrives

Radiator will be given a thorough flushing too :)
