Thanks gents, The cam timing is now sorted- 5 mins on the phone with Zen and it all made sense and its now done, and whats better is that it matched the factory marks on the jp billet kit spot on which makes me feel even more reassured
Now on the the lifter preload (lost my kit, zen sent me the rest of his kindly but I got no instructions)
I got some 1.6 welding rod and some 0.98 welding rod and bent up the ends.
The cam says ideally 50 (thou? is it) but another bit of paper says 40 - either would be good.
On the first go with no shims the gap was massive, I could get the 1.6 rod in and move it up and down, then with the medium shims in seemed right on the 1.6 rod size except for the one at either end which was still too big.
Fitted the really fat shims and a lot of the gaps were the same size as the .98 rod but about 3 or 4 were too tight to get it in at all.
Now I know I will need to buy another shim kit which I will order tonight but how am I going to get the balance right, are you allowed to put different size shims under each pedestal or do all four have to be shimmed by the same amount? If I have no option is better if the gaps too big or too small?
Many thanks Zen, James and Mark and everyone else
