I think I'll go for a bar, JM. The guns are pretty expensive. You can get cheaper air ones, but the cheap ones don't look great quality.

I have yet to find a bolt on a car I can't undo with my 2' bar...it helps being a few years younger than your good self and I used to lug Structural Steel Beams and Columns around all day in a previous 'life'.

Cheeky bloody kid! ;)

Some time ago I came to the conclusion That you don't have to be mad to own a Green badge motor !

BUT IT FOOKIN HELPS !!

I can recommend these if on a budget. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clarke-1-...220562?hash=item19fa948812:g:oY0AAOSwu-BWQ3cK
They are great for wheel nuts and seized bolts. Having said that from time to time I still need to break out the breaker bar but for most things including crank pulleys their great.

After the Kielder battery impact wrench would not undo it, I decided to break out the big guns to tighten it.

Anyone tempted to say anything about piston, bearing, etc choices? Please :)
This is the link to the LR Direct page for pistons (I think these are the right ones for the 300Tdi)
Do you think that Land Rover price is for four  If it's for one I'll not be having those. Obviously, I'll want to go OEM. What does Brand:OEM mean on the LR Direct site? Would they arrive in a blue bag? What are those KOLBENSCHMIDT ones like? I noticed Turner Engineering sell them too. Cheers.

oem = original equipment manufacurer, ie same manufacture as makes the genuine, the choice is yours
KOLBENSCHMIDT is genuine and obviously the best but ive fitted britpart and other pattern makes for people with success the cost is persuasive at times

Thanks, James. The KolbenSchmidt piston set, on Turner Engineering site, seem to be a good price. There's a mind boggling range on the LR Direct Site.

Turner's seem to be quite selective in what they sell, so if they stock it it must be pretty good in my opinion. Unlike some suppliers where you're apt to get Britpart's own brand if you're not careful.
There's some mouthwatering stuff on the Turner Engineering website. I'm almost hoping for a cylinder head failure so I can buy one of their AMC cylinder heads for the TD5.

Cheers, Brown. Had the same thoughts about the Turner Engineering site myself.
Why wait! You could always go for a performance head before the gasket goes. Save damaging anything else. :) spoil yourself this Christmas :D

I can't get the engine to split from the gearbox
I've tried hitting it with a rubber mallet. Should I try something harder?

if you support the box and remove engine mounts you can lower engine til a gap appears presuming all bolts are out
