Looks like I need a breaker! Having said that, you must mean a long, strong, tubular bar that will fit over a socket wrench.
No, A tube over a ratchet will strip and kill your ratchet...the forces required to both undo the crank bolt and then do it up again ,will kill it! A decent breaker bar is worth its weight in gold...esp. for the head bolts too...

It wont be coming out for a week or two. :( So it's pointless rushing it, engine stand arrived this week. but I'm away from Saturday morning for a week. :(

What's everyone's thoughts on a 30" (760mm) breaker bar? Long enough to pull down the head bolts and crank pulley nut?

Or, should I be looking for one a metre long? Not many with a 1/2" drive

2 ft bar is all you need for head bolts , decent 1/2 inch batter gun does crank bolt or a tube on the 2ft bar
