Are they like discos in that once you start welding, you’re forever chasing the rust then? I’m sure the engine could make a decent conversion for a Landy…

possibly worse than a Landy as theres almost none left & spares are a bit of a problem to find - no UK importers or dealerships :(

they're good but not as good as a Disco in my opinion as less internal space, comfort / seating position is verry Jap so almost sitting on the floor with 'thin' seats & cushons also the 2.8L td power is miles behind the Landy's 2.5L '200tdi' in both low-rev torque and overall 'pull'

easier to park though as smaller:D:D:D

theres a few 2.8L td fourtrack engines in Landies, was a popular conversion 20+ years ago and cheaper than OE types - theres a few on LZ if you search:cool:

more progress (ish:oops:)

ent to Newbury autojumble today, had a stall and sold some junk:D

also bought some stuff:p

good day had, on road @ 05.00 and home ~ 19.00hrs:confused:

290 mile roundtrip and van averaged 45mpg - not bad for an old vwt4 with a 1.9tdi conversion (donor B4 Passat had covered 314,000 miles before fitting in the van & that was 9 years ago so it's probably covered half a million now:D)

casualty! van eaten passanger rear pad so tomorrow need to fix that - mot @ 11.00 so early start:(

anyway, swag:cool:

200tdi Defender airfilter assembly, something I've been after for for a while - even bought one on ebay but seller cancelled the sale:(

another lucky find:eek: from a different seller and at a fantastic price (thankyou) for one of the missing pieces:)

I could have made something to do the job BUT this fits & works so perfect:cool:

Mot pass for the AntichristNinety, first time for the 200tdi conversion but advisories on slight damage to the drivers door mirror and play in tha pas box - annoying as I'd recently bought that to convert to pas:rolleyes:

exhaust smoke @ 1.1 average (max 3.5?) so no issues there:cool:

now also taxed, £26pm:confused:

And.....

'filled' it with fuelo_O

swapped the lower intercooler pipe from a 300tdi type to the correct 200tdi Defender type, also mounted the airfilter mount bracket.

Defender 200tdi airfilter p/number...

today I fitted a new airfilter element and drove it (the Ninety NOT the element although one and:p)

first proper drive since 200tdi conversion and mot

~20 miles @ road and faster speeds:eek:

that was enough:confused:

happy @55mph but seemingly flat-out @65-70mph so guessing the 1.4:1 ratio transfer box?o_O

Well done with the test Rich. What’s next then, finishing touches to the conversion to make it better or on to the discos? I know for me I’d be falling into the ‘temporary unless it works’ trap and moving on to a new project leaving a snagging list to never really get around to.

probably neither:oops:

My van (vwt4) is having mot work so that's priority and I've plenty of snagging to discover on the Ninety:confused:

as to the Disco's, I'm considering rehoming them to make some space / release funds and make room for another projekt:D

Drove it to work today, ~25 mile each way & mostly motorway cruising (if you can call it that:confused:) around 50-55mph.........

used 1/4 tank of dieselo_O

is that good / normal / bad or average?

also, it needs cruise controll:D

and......

nothing fell off (that I know about anyway:oops:)

If the fuel gauge is anything like my Disco the gauge being quarter down has no relation to a quarter of the fuel having been consumed. Discovery reliably does 100 miles before moving off full, another 150 by the time it says 3/4 but never more than about 600 on a full tank.

I’d say that’s about right. The 90’s fuel tank is smaller than the disco.

survived another comute, `50 noisy, rattly and uneventfull of your finest brittish miles:D

same again tomorrow:cool:

Rich.

That’s just showing off!:p

Or enjoying the 200Tdi! :D

to enjoy properly its going to have a Disco 1.2:1 transfer box fitted as the motorway revs are just too high:(

as its no shining chelsea tractor or mountain-climbing mudpluggah but a towcar theres a few creature-comforts that I can add:oops:

like a working heater / chineese night-air heater so it's not iced-up inside (like this morning:rolleyes:)

Rich.

another ~50 miles travelled & I've had a visit to the fuel station as the gauge showed between half & 1/4:)

^^This was based on my belief that a 1986 Ninety's fuel tank was about 8 gallon capacity:confused:

so, 37 Litres - £70 later its full again:cool:

downside is that works out @ 27mpg....

seems about what it should do?

Rich.
