ok folks, read all the posts and as a new freelander owner I'm in trying it in the next fill up!! does this stuff meet the spec Wilko 2 Stroke Engine Oil 600ml | Motor Oils | | Car Care from Wilkinson Plus
cheers guys and thanks good reading nice one D3..

It looks fine and dandy to me, finendandy. :D

The price is right and its base oil low ash - non of that synthetic stuff - which is what you want.

I wonder what colour it is. I'm using Halfords now, as opposed to Tescos as it's green and cheaper if you've got a Halford's trade card.

Good luck - report back after a few tankfulls.

ok Finendandy ,
i have been using the "green" wilko 2 stroke oil for a couple of months now and have to say its done its job with no problems , but keep away from the "red " wilkos oil as its synthetic , wont burn as good and its more money !

Been running the disco on the 2 stroke mix and noticed a major diff, less noise and smoother running. Will be using it in the TD4 now and will post the results

I have been using 400ml per tank and Millers additive this combo seems very good .... Millers seems to improve mpg. Will report back....

I'm trying the Millers too, but I'm still using a 2-stroke ratio of 1:200 which is 300ml per tank. Just because I've got an easy to use 300ml plastic bottle and keep it in the back. Could replace it of course......

Just local work at the moment no long journeys but we'll see how it goes.

has anybody had a mot yet with it in would be intrested in the results

Mine passed it's MOT last September with no probs. I can't remember if it had 2-stroke or ATF fluid in the tank at the time but it was one or the other.

I take it your concerned about the smoke? - There isn't any!

The tester 3 times tried to obtain a reading on the DSM machine - each time it failed to record any smoke at all, and gave the standard error reading - 'Check the probe has not fallen out the exhaust pipe or is it fully inserted?' or words to that effect.

After the 3rd 'no reading' the tester is given the option of a manual entry pass, which is what he recorded on the machine.

I reckon as long as you are using low-ash base-oil 2-Stroke there should be no problem.

Adding 2-Stroke actually reduced the smoke I used to get when I was still using supermarket diesel. When I was using Morrisons diesel it was quite embarrassing the amount of black smoke when I was overtaking with full throttle.

Now I'm using Shell V-Power plus Halfords cheapest 2-Stroke and I'm going to give it a bit of Millers too to see if there is any difference as D3savage suggests.

Hi All,

I've been reading this thread with interest but just wondering if it's safe to use in my TD4, it's a 2006 TD4 Freelander with the BMW engine (I think) I get the impression from the posts it's for older diesel engines but might be wrong.

Cheers

Mine is a 2005 TD4 (BMW engine) Been using it for a while now with excellent results. Also carried out the EGR by pass mod and replaced the crank case breather that, combined with the use of 2 stroke, has made a great difference. You will not be disappointed.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Mine is still the same as when driven out of the garage brand new. I have not done any EGR bypass mod or anything like that (bit scared to try really) I'll have to read up a bit more on the EGR bypass to see what it's all about.

Cheers

Reporting back on my trials over the last few weeks with using Tesco's cheapest red at about 200:1 ratio.

Defender 90 running with the 200tdi engine loves it, getting over 30 mpg and clean, no more black smoke, torque on hills and low revs seems better.

Also put it in the RRS getting about an extra 80 miles to the tank no change in driving style so well worth the effort in my opinion, seems to be paying its way

My 2001 TD4 has had two tanks with 2 stroke in and the change is very noticable. A lot smoother on start up and tick over quieter running and better mpg

Bought some for my company car, started missing a bit. Ran some injector cleaner through it for a few tanks, still the same...

Was well impressed with 2 stroke oil before, so hoping for big things. Was also getting a consistent 63mpg before, so we shall see how that works out :)

Best part was it was a freebie. Bought it with my weekly shopping. The guy at the till couldnt find the barcode (as it had fallen off the bottle) so just put it through anyway :D

Little update from me;

Running it in a Fiesta van (1.4 TDCi) and I found no quieter than normal, no more power than normal, and returned 62.8mpg after 2 tanks.

It has to be said though, I was a big fan off the stuff in my last car. Huge difference

It does smoke less though, and starts easier :)

Please help an old guy who remembers buying petrol at Three shillings and sixpence a gallon.
Need help with metrics. I usually put £50 of diesel at a time into my 300Tdi engine.
That = 36L to me = 3600 ml and at 250 to 1 = app 15ml.
please correct my maths and tell me what % i should try in my 36L.
bring back feet,inches, pints.etc.

thanks

OK Jim,

Now got teacher hat on.

36 litres is 36000 ml (1000ml or even cc if you like to the litre)

Most folks are using 200:1 so it would be 180ml for your £50 worth, 200ml for easy measuring.

If you want 250:1 ratio it would be 144ml or 150 would be OK.

All you did wrong was miss a zero on the end, mate.

No detention tonight.

Have a yard of ale instead. :beer2:

Cheers, Singvogel.

ps you must be older than me. My first memory is buying petrol at four shillings tenpence ha'penny a gallon. Ha ha.

Hey up Jim, I've never given up on our measurements and volumes mate, always convert lts back to gallons and it's MPG for me, not the foreign miles/ltr thing.
Back when I was 20 it was three gallons of 4* for a quid, smokes 2 bob for 20.
As for the 2stroke oil in diesel, I don't reccon it's rocket science more a bit snake oil ish. If you fancy trying it just bung a pint or so in a tank full. Reccon you'd get the same results with a bottle of cooking oil and a damn sight cheaper too.

thanks for the education guys.
my petrol at 3 and sixpence was for my BSA super rocket 650 bike.
Even remember getting so short one day had to lean bike on its side to drain fuel into the carb to keep going. Ahh!!! the good old days

cheers and thanks again.
