Hi

My 2005 model TD4 was bog standard this time last year.
EGR bypass kit is a definate improvement along with the inlet manifold clean up - very messy.
Synergy 2 another improvement along with the Pierburg MAF.
BMW vortex engine breather another improvement.
Ive been using millers additive which my car seems to run better on, and have just started to add 2 stroke oil to the diesel.

Thanks for the reply. Mine is still the same as when driven out of the garage brand new. I have not done any EGR bypass mod or anything like that (bit scared to try really) I'll have to read up a bit more on the EGR bypass to see what it's all about.

Yesterday I bought one liter of Kroon 2stroke oil for 6,73£ for a liter, added 300 ml in the tank and filled the car up afterwards. Seem to run smoother on tickover, re mpg no idea as just filled it up y'day. The Kroon oil is uncolored (no danger when controlled for possible use of red ccentral heating oil), is half synthetic and low on sulphur.
 
Great thread this,couple of questions though

1. Could you use Castrol R racing oil? ( i know its expensive but the smell would be nice :D)

2. If adding the oil lubricates the pump and top end what would happen if you then stopped adding the 2 stroke oil,would it cause any damage due to it being less lubricated?

The answer is No and No. :(

If you stop using 2-stroke things will just go back to what they were before.

Castrol R40 is £14 per litre and I put some in my Flymo so's I can dream and reminisce while cutting the grass. I tried it with limited success in the wife's Glade plug-in and in an aroma-therapy oil-burner above a candle thingy.

Ah - nostalgia...... :D

Wont do any good as an upper cylinder lubricant though. It'll gum up the works - literally. It'll leave deposits where we don't want them. read the bottle - do NOT mix with other oils - it reacts with diesel in a very short time - not good I think. :(

:scratching_chin:..........could always put a bit of Castrol R in the V8! :D
 
Hi All, Me being a bit thick (an age thing) just wanted to make sure I have got the right stuff. I went to Halfords today and bought a 1 litre bottle of 2 Stroke Garden Engine Oil for £5.99. It say's on the bottle:

1, Specially formulated for use in 2 stroke garden engines
2, Readily mixes with fuel
3, Low ash, mineral formulation helps reduce engine deposits

Meets the requirementsof API TC JASO FB & ISO L-EGB

Can somebody please tell me if I have the right stuff before I add it to my tank on the next fill-up. :eek:

Ps don't know what colour it is yet.

It's green.

BMW I believe, suggest 200:1 mix - so 250ml per 50 litres for example.

As for the age thing - I would recommend high-strength Ginko Biloba, I take one tablet everyday - if I can remember where I left them. Ha ha!

Just measured out 250ml in a little water bottle to put in the boot ready for the fill-up and it's RED in colour just hope I've got the right stuff. :eek:
 
No worries guys.

I just phoned my local Halfords and they tell me that it can be either red or green depending on the batch number.

No difference in the spec though.
