170k on the clock, headliner needs doing too. I've read a few posts on the headliner redo and that looks fairly straightforward to fix. Sunroof doesn't work either, I read on a headliner fix post about the sunroof drain tray or something going rusty and causing it to jam. Is it possible to see if the sunroof has a rust issue or is it only evident when the liner is removed?

The sunroof cassettes can corrode, however it really depends on the climate the car has been exposed to, mine for example has a crusty cassette however it spent the majority of its life in pembroke/swansea so salty sea air and salt covered roads and salt filled puddles thrown on to the roof in winter did it no favours, what happens is water finds it way under the seal that it sat on the lip of the sunroof frame and just sits there, eventually corroding the frame causing it to expand and break the seal between the glass/frame and you get water ingress, if the frame isn't completely rotten a good dose of sealant will fix it..

You can easily see, usually a rusting frame makes the seal bubble/lift away from the glass, bulges are easy to see if you look at the sunroof from the outside.

To be fair regarding the mileage, they're capable of 400k plus however maintenance plays a huge part as you'd imagine..

Plenty of fish in the sea as they say I'd keep an eye out for one with working EAS and all the features present and correct, you can find a P38 without a sunroof but they're quite rare ;)

It may be worth a look, mileage or not. For me , if the bodywork is clean then the rest can be repaired in good time.
But it's not my money. I bought mine with 175.000ml on the clock and now on 224.000. Previous History and owner enthusiasm a must. :D
 
Hmm. It’s on coils so they can forget the 2k mark for starters.

I’d want to look behind that drivers headlight. It’s odd. And I don’t mean the extra-wonky wiper that whole area looks iffy. The passenger side one is supposed to be a little squiff like that

I've been googling spring conversion reviews and I'm looking for one on air now or at least one with most of the bits left to reinstate. So many on coils though.
 
Most garages dont know how the air system works, a motor comes in with a fault, they may change the bags but it still drops because the pump is worn out feeding the leak and the dont have the diag to work with it so for them (sticking it on springs is the answer):(
its simple when you understand it and easy to work on, when you get one a good start would be to carry out a rebuild if the pump and valve block, kit is under 50 notes and gives you known units that will be ok for quite a few years, its stuff that should be done in the service schedule.
 
When you look at one have a look at the rear brake lines if they have not been changed and are rust thats a good bargaining point for some money of and is an easy job.
 
terrain response , total control hill decent never seen that on a p38:rolleyes:, nothing special fitted its just a tidy p38 bit pricey and it will still need some work done on it after all its a landrover:p
but it does look nice:)
 
P38s are priced according to interior spec and exterior condition.
Put a celebrity’s cousins dog once owned it and +£10G :eek:
Wether you buy ‘minter’ or a dog same niggly issues you will face with either, just ask any of us. You only need to make sure the major things are okay.

As for the coils :
- an iffy but all there EAS system is fine- totally acceptable and normal. Budget in repair
- completely missing EAS is bit of bother and money so not worth it if that’s what you want (you do! ;)) as there are plenty out there with both unworking EAS plus coils which is more for your money and both options
- coils are fine (just drive any other 4x4!) if done properly and suited to your needs, just not jacked up 6” like a Disco. Mine works fine never had suspension issues. End of the day I know you well enough to know you want working EAS and it’s not like it’s that hard or expensive to achieve given you have all us to help you
