What's a maff? Lol!
Heard of an egr though, can they be removed, blanked off?

Mass airflow sensor. Basically tells the engine how much air its taking in. Sensors can go dodgy and give false readings, this leads to poor running. EGR can be blanked off yes.

Unfortunately you can have a well written advert and the car is a complete pile of scrap. It's just a case of looking and picking one that just feels right. Have you decided on a spec that you want? Worth checking the facebook groups too.
Condition overides spec really, my plan was to get a late low mileage cared for example with no rot. Then I got worried about the MAF egr thing then not worried as much.
Budget up to 5k.

Now you've given a budget, that makes life a bit easier. This one has popped up, yes its overpriced but it does look a good example. It's an early one but don't let that put you off. Wouldn't worry about the EGR/MAF thing. EGR can be blanked, MAF's can be replaced.

If you can get this for under £4k, you'd have yourself a very nice P38.

vogue badges are readily available cheap on the Bay, and it's on springs:eek:never a good sign.;)

What would I actually need to get nanocom wise?, I've seen them for £500 iirc but do you then need other stuff to get it to work on the 38 diesel?
I guess they tell you engine faults and stuff but do they go as far as to tell you why the sunroof don't open or the radio won't come on and the like?
Sorry, stuck in the 1970's tech me:oops:.
I fitted relays, electric windows, extra lights etc in my 110, so not a total electrical retardo_O:D
Nanocom communicates with everything on the P38 something a standard OBD reader will not, it also allows to to adjust settings in the BECM and it generally makes life easier! - EAS - ABS - HVAC - Etc everything a standard £30 jobbie won't do ;)
You have to get one for the engine type in your case diesel, they range from £450 IIRC you can 2nd hand units for £200 ish..

Main thing is to go see & drive the car. That way you can check everything over.

The red one above still has all the EAS pipes, but no picture of the Valve block or not, but might be worth a phone call. Owner clearly doesn't like writing adverts !!

I would avoid the Green one - it's overpriced for a P38 on springs, plus it's failed MOT every year except 2 in last 10 years (probably not maintained in between)..

Not much else will talk to a P38 diesel properly other than a Nanocom 06.

The MAF is the expensive thing that won’t like the veg oil so much. Not found on pre EGR models.

It won't be veg but veg converted to bio, much thinner than veg if that makes a difference?

The mechanical FIP fuel pump on the engine was originally designed to lubricate itself with the sulphur in the diesel, which veg oil/biofuel lacked causing premature wear. Doubt that will make much difference these days as B7 fuel now doesn’t really contain it anyhow.
Any M51 P38 will run on anything you put in there but the earlier models have less sensors and such to fault and go wrong which is peace of mind for you and your pocket.

I'm nearing 60 and I love my 110 to bits but cronky knees and back are taking their toll on me now:rolleyes:.
I make biodiesel and I need a more comfy bus to run around in and love landrovers so a P38 diesel seems ideal being veg oil tolerant too.
However, I'm very old skool, never really moved with the times and I've never owned a car with ECU's or anything, my 200tdi 110 is joyously simple in that respect.
I know I'll need a nanocom? From what I've picked up from reading posts and maybe a few other tools too, mechanical stuff doesn't scare me , complicated electronics and auto boxes do even though I've never owned an auto.
Maybe auto P38's are better than manuals? Is there a particular year of P38 where niggles were ironed out or indeed, where they got worse?
I want a real clean one not a project, hoping to keep it that way.
Is there a comprehensive buyer's guide anywhere, I've found vague ones which have just scared me more.:p
I have had four P38 petrol and two diesel after moving from Series, Classics and Discos. My current daily is an L322 v8 on lpg which I love! Still had a P38 itch and bought a 2.5 locally with auto on coils a few months a go. I think the only issues unique to the diesels are "hot start" due to a worn timing chain etc.. I think the P38 is still any easy machine to work on, the main PITA with the L322 is that you can't really repair items and have to buy as one unit.... drivers window switch pack!

I've seen one on eBay but how the hell do I do a clickable link on here so you experts can give an opinion?
I've only got a phone no pc.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
It's got some issues....

Go on the eBay app and it will give you a share option. Somewhere it will say copy link. Then just press the chain icon on here, paste the link and it should create a hyperlink.

I get this after tapping 'share' on the eBay app. If I ignore that and come back to LZ and press the chain thing nowt happens. The chain thing is that one that looks like a square framed pair of specs?

Can you see/read the description off my link? I can but don't know if I did it right:rolleyes:
Used to tow caravan in the description.
On springs and I've messaged the seller and he says the gubbins under the bonnet were also removed, presume that's the compressor and?...
No parcel shelf, seat heaters don't work( is that a cheap fix?) And a nasty dash cam self tappered into the lovely dash:eek:

I dont get the bit about any work always do by a landrover specialist but its on springs, the electric water pump sounds interesting, looks clean apart from the camera display and missing parcel shelf but they are easy fixes the seat heaters is a broken wire in the base element easy fix with soldering iron and a bit of wire you just have to take the seat out to take the leather squab of.
