If the mainshaft and intermediate gears need replacing then I wouldn't bother due to the cost. Luckily, mine didn't

Gasket set :£10
Flange : £7
Intermediate shaft : £23
Crossdrilled input gear :£54
Diff gear set: £50
Various bearings: £70
Circlips: £5

Total: £219

There may be some extra cheap bits that you might need but those are the main things that I replaced. As I said, if you need the main gears, for an extra £225, you may as well get ashcroft to rebuild it.

Yeah ive been comparing costs recently, ive got a good disco transfer box which i was thinking of just giving it a new input gear, and then ive got the original box off my defender which i think might be knackered. i bought the disco box as a replacement but now im thinking it would be worthwhile rebuilding both because at the end of the day i could sell one after and make a little money back on it

I also looked at rebuilding the LT77 but I didn't have the tools to remove the many bearings from the mainshaft so I got a replacement from ashcroft. Also the transfer box looks a lot simpler to take apart.

Yeah, i dont think im going to bother with mine either as several of the sychros are worn and the main shaft needs replacing as the splines on the end are nearly worn through. Judging by how bad the transmission was overall i think it would be safer just to buy a replacement.

Cheers, hmm... I hooe its costs less than 200. Brought a 1.4 to rebuild but not opened it up yet, guess the only way to know is to strip it!

Timing belt change - Took these photos in November and still haven't got around to doing it along with the oil seals.

From what I heard, it would be impossible to undo the pulley nut out of the car but somehow, with a ring spanner and a big hammer and about half and hour and it was off. The only problem I had was I rounded off the bolts that hold the pulley onto the damper but managed to hammer a smaller socket on and got them out.

Finishing off the back axle now with the gaskets, tightening bearings, new lock washers, new flange bolts and new wheel nuts
