Hi,

I've been doing the ECU loom tests as per the factory manual. I'm getting very low voltages on some of the back probe tests and no resistance on a couple of tests. The ECU was tested as okay.

Everything seems to lead towards the fusible links as my last hope of getting her going again.

Does this pic show them bad. They're blackened in places and when I removed the sleeves they were crumpled near the black marks.

What has prompted you to start looking at the leccys on the car? does it not start?

Yep I have a non start.

I wanted to try everything I could think of before pestering the forum.

I have spark and I have the fuel relay jumped. Plugs are damp, but no soggy.

0.2 volts on the MAF wire that should read about 4-5v iirc.

Low voltage with throttle open on EFI loom

No resistance on the selector inhibitor in D,1,2,3.

ECU checked out as fine. Don't have spare to shove into mine though. (Anyone have a spare 9611 ecu kicking about)

0.9 V on fuel temp loom, should have 5v

She has started briefly a couple of times and fizzed out.

Could this be a battery problem? AM I a twit ?

Changed cap and rotor (genuine) no change, spark was good anyway.

Changes ignition amp for spare...no change.

Ah, you've done what I would have done....my first thoughts were ignition amp, as my old 3.9 classic wouldn't start and after checking everything under the sun, it turned out to be the amp.

If you are getting wet plugs, that is a sign the ECU knows the engine is turning over and getting a spark (as the ECU checks for a spark via a small resistor in the ignition circuits) and as such fires the injectors.

Hve you pulled a plug out and with the lead attached a a jump lead earthed it to the engine and looked for a good strong spark?

I have checked for spark, but I'm going to do it again as I feel something iffy is amiss. The plugs become damp, but not saturated. One of the wires with low voltage is the Brown\orange and Yellow\ White, which is for left bank of injectors, I think.

Have great spark, but still have the low voltage on the MAF loom. I will have to trace further me thinks, air is the problem. Low voltage on the throt-pot too. Looks like I'll have to trace further and it's pishing down.

Looking like it was some really, really dodgy LPG wiring around the EFI relay. Started to rain again so I ****ed off inside.

Well done chap. Anything non standard must be a target before you get into the efi system

Yep, the diagnostic routine in the manual basically isolates all the issues. And left only one thing...LPG. Wiring was a fecking abysmal job done by a cowboy (probably blind). I just decided to rip the LPG wiring out and start again and wired up the ECU as per normal.

First turn of the key and she roared away. Much better starting and idle.

Total cost of repair: £0

Okay so now we are back to non starting. I have 12v at positive coil with ignition on, but when cranking it drops to around 9v, should be okay, shouldn't it? I disconnected the lead from the coil at the distributor end and got no spark at all against the block.

I got no spark at all.

I tries sticking a plug in the lead and then earthing it on threads. I then ran a jump wire from the negative terminal and the plug would not spark.

The only spare coil I have is a "09-220 12v BAllasted coil"

Would this work on the EFI?
