I have always considered myself as being fairly competent with the old spanners but the other day when going to service my newly aquired Freelander I couldn't remove the undertray. As far as I can see there are two bolts at the back of the black plastic part. The black plastic part looks as though it is riveted to the aluminium bash plate at the front.

Surely Land Rover didn't design this so you have to remove the black plastic undertray and aluminium bash plate together???

Yes they did but it all comes off in just a matter of minutes.

The first time I did this I was following the Haynes and was a little put out to find that they forgot to mention the screws at the front, well either that or I didn't see it written down? Anyway, only took a couple of minutes to establish what was causing the thing to stick into position at the front.

Cheers for all your replies. Took it off today, all the front bolts were seized. I think I'm going to modify it so the plastic part unscrews from the aluminium part.

Thanks, had the same prob today, but still managed to change to oil and filter using a piece of cardboard to divert oil flow!lol It is a **** design, fairplay. They should've just maded it one piece.
