Any of you with time on your hands and a spare Hippoo? Heres an answer to the VCU problem - wanna give it a try?:D:D

if you look at the front of the diff - there is, what looks like, a VCU. 'cept it is electrically controlled:D. If this could be mated to the back end of a Hippoo - you would have electrically controlled, proportional 2/4wd drive :D.

no idea - dint say it would be easy - just the idea of an electric VCU is better than the crap fitted to Hippoos.

Dont the hippootoo have an electronic system?

Hippo final drive ratios are 3.14 or 3.214(early).
X-T final drive ratio is 2.466.

so unless yer prepared to spend a small fortune getting the proper gears made up yer idea of selotaping it on is shoit, but the theory int bad maybe yer could butcher the leccy bit on to a gaylander diff
 
I like the concept whereby the mech is inline with the drivetrain.
This alone, might overcome any MOT issues 'vehicle not presented as it was designed' and all that. Proportions would be the same as the FL bits

Slob had suggested the series transfer box in another Mondo mode thread, equally good idea, but it would sit adjacent to the drivetrain. Any smart-arse inspector might get a bit shirty about any glaringly obvious mod/add on.

where exactly does it move on the pinion shaft and coupling?
Whats that collapsable washer thingy

could the front half of the X-T diff replace the VCU altogether?

I thought MHM said the leckky bit was all sensors, can it be overcome with an analogue input?

I thought LR solved the problem with the VCU/IRD when they changed the ratio of the IRD post 2001:confused:. I presume from this thread this is not the case:cool: ?

They did G99......................only there was never a recall for tens of thousands of FL1 with the old ratio. You are still going to get wear on the VCU, depending on vehicle speed, cornering, terrain etc

Besides, with a switch 2wd/4wd selector, think of the fuel saving alone, then you just switch to 4wd when you need it.

Works for the Honda CRV, Nissan X-Trail and others
