Coolant Loss x 1 Expansion bottle per Week

Hi Gang, I reckon my 2.5 V petrol Freebe is loosing an expansion bottle of coolant a week and I cannot see any leaks anywhere. System gets up to pressure and temp in 10 mins and the coolant is very clean...no mayo and no foam. No problem with cabin heat. Any idea's. Jasper
 
could be rad leak, sometimes very difficult to see them when up to temp and pressure, try some radweld if it works great , if it dont , you only wasted £3.50

try the easy and cheap fixes first

whats the issue with radweld and hippos , only mentions 825/827 models

RADweld
Permanently seals radiator leaks
Unaffected by anti-freeze
Contains rust inhibitors
Safe for use with rubber hoses.
Directions.
Run the engine until coolant is warm.
Shake bottle well. pour RADweld into radiator.
Run engine for a few minutes. allowing seal to harden.
Once added RADweld remains active, sealing leaks which may occur in the future and inhibits rust formation.

Not recommended for Rover 825/827 models.
 
its not nice stuff at the best of times. it clogs up bits that really shouldn't be glogged up.. i.e. yer radiator and heater matrix and any other smlall hole it can find
 
:).Hi,the KV6 enigine is same thing as the Rover 825 2.5V6,if you use Radweld in it your engine will die!,according to a mechancially minded friend its to do with very narrow waterways being blocked up.As anyone on here will advise the KV6 is poorly cooled and any blocking of the already limited coolant flow will likely overheat and kill it totally.Theres other stuff called K-seal or similar that seems more likely to help with leaks without blocking waterways but best search for anyone who has used it for better advice.
 
My V6 leaks water from the O rings and hoses on the water pump or thermostat housing. You can check this by removing the cover/air filter housing and looking through the gaps in the inlet manifold. If there is a mucky wet mess in the casting wells below the water pump dry it by poking rag down there. Run the car for a week and check if its wet down there again. If it is this is probably your problem. Mine started leaking a couple of months after changing the inlet manifold. As this has to come of to get to the pump I put some rad weld in for a temporary repair, that was about a year ago and its just started leaking again so I guess it is time to fix it properly
 
Thanks all for your advice. Unfortunately we ended up with head gasket failure. The job cost 2000 euro in the end ( about £1350) and the job was first class. I ended up with a engineering works doing the complete job, and if anybody in Ireland needs this job done on a V6 or any other model, the I can recommend this company with confidence.
