Hey!

I'm new

I'm due a delivery on Friday morning. An R reg 1998 Discovery in green. 300tdi engine with autobox. Providing the guy doesn't back out

Just really looking to brush up on the details. If someone has a way of finding factory details about it, please PM me and I'll give you the reg plate.

Why did I purchase it? Well........ not quite sure. I have always owned Transit vans, never owned a car. Don't like sitting low. Transit gets stuck on wet grass lol.

Also got a few offroad places I've been to before with friends. Would like to have a go there in the summer :) :D

Also, I have a ready supply of biodiesel (proper stuff). I assume this disco will run it or I won't be able to afford to run it coz of diesel prices

If possible I'd actually like to twin tank it to save even more money!

Cheers!

You have made a good decision. It will run on 100% bio except if its really cold then simply add 5% unleaded to it. That’s all I did through December and mine ran fine all through the snow.

Just make sure you have a couple of spare fuel filters ready, and clean out the sedimentor at the rear by the fuel tank, as bio will clean all the **** out of the system

What info do you need? Download the Rave manual its free. Do a search for it, its easy to find.

Above all enjoy your Disco

Also. I need to remove the rear 2 seats in the boot to turn it into a 5 seater. It dramatically reduced my insurance as I am still "young".

Is it just 4 bolts sort of thing? And then belts?

yes it is just undo the bolts and rip 'em out pics and detailed instructions can be found in the rave manual.

Is there any meets in or around Ipswich?

I'd like to go green laning but haven't found anywhere yet.

I live just down the road (Manningtree), Check the Essex lanes thread there's a group who regularly go out laning, nice bunch (I know your reading this Big Stu;)).

I done a few lanes in Suffolk a few weeks ago (see Suffolk lanes thread) but they are spread apart.

There's a short, but OK lane in Belstead, min off the A12, also one in Dedham which i haven't tried yet.

Also Suffolk land Rover Club have driving days, next one is the 20th Feb. I'll be going and Stu went last time and seemed to recommend it.

Oh & :welcome2:

yes, yes, and yes:D:D:D:D

you are welcome to join as as well when our group goes for a run some where in essex, wickford90, Co-Pang-yang, Brian S, DJGuy, and of course Discodad, and the rest.

Yeah the SLROC are a nice bunch and on the club course learn in a controled envoriment, and take part in activites like the Day into Night trial on the 5th Feb and the TRYO trial on the 6th that I am going to have a go at.

How do I join?

I'd like to have a play at Newbourne but am new to all of this. How does signing in work?

Only motoring club I've been part of is for commercial vehicles.

Welcome. What do you mean by Factory Info. To be honest Landrover where crap at keeping records.
Also why do you want twin tanks? Do you know how big the tank is on a discovery?
It fecking hugh.

I'd like to know how it left the factory in terms of toys. Mine has cruise control, leccy windows, etc..... does it have heated seats? Things like that that I might have missed. I might press a button one day and shoot out the roof :D

I want to twin tank it so it starts on biodiesel and then when warm, runs on oil. My other vehicles I just put a 5L jerry can inside the engine bay but the landy engine sits in there quiet tight

I'll have a look over the weekend.

can join before the 20th or join on the day. Go over the posts on the Suffolk lanes thread, Deano & Stu provided some info on joining the driving days as http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f13/suffolk-lanes-119634.html

PS - I'm going to try and do a few local lanes one night soon, maybe tomorrow?
if your about PM me your mobile and I'll give you call.
Nick.

So I fill the form in and post it off.... then what? Can you then just turn to days and pay to play? Like I say.. never done this before. Offroaded before but not in my own vehicle.

I'd also like to do a day in the disco before I try a night.

Also, I've got to remove bumper, fit guards, etc before I take it anywhere. Also need to sort towing eyes out properly. I don't want to cause any damage.

Here she be though:

Is there any project threads on this forum about subtly modding a disco for off road?

Loads!
But depends on what you want to do.
Personally I'd lose the valance, get some recovery points (jates on the back + steering guard with recovery points / or jates on the front)
The rest can be sorted after.
Me and Stu will be meeting at the truck stop at Tesco, Copdock at apx 20:00 - 20:15 tonight. Only doing 2 / 3 lanes then maybe a pint?
if your about you can tag along or jump in one of our cars.

Yeah just fillin and send it off you'll get a Membership card back the its just turn up and enoy on the events, other wise outside of the club its get to know people and join in and enjoy.

On driving days ect at SLROC your landy will be scrutinised before your allowed to go on the course, but good advice anyway.

Have a read of these.

As far as green laning goes

You look like you got the tyres

Have you got a tow bar? if so that will do as your rear recovery point for the mo. or just get some Jate rings, for the rear.

For the front I would take the lower Part of the bumper off theres only about 5 scews holding it on and trim the front endcaps along the line. for front recovery point just get a steering Guard with recovery points, that will protect your steering arms as well.

Other then that a good tow rope/strap, a few rated shackles, and of course always go in a group.

Some places that you go and play, ie play and play sites you need a first aid kit and a fire extingusher.

A CB is good to keep in touch with everyone else

you can follow up other kit and guards as time goes on.

Your welcome to tag along with us some time
