The muddiest driveway in Essex
a couple of us have noticed we have a bracing beam/gearbox protector running across the chassis rails-pretty much 2" box section. Its located under the front prop.

We're running +40mm suspension & on articulation, the prop is dropping down onto this bar & catching it, so not allowing full articulation. Obviously with this removed, the front axle would hang off the radius arms & the shocks...

Has anyone ever removed the bar or know of its original intention?

Common problem if you lift 2" and fit extended shocks, the "best" solution is to simply add a spacer under the cross member each side to lower it a bit and fit longer bolts. Ali block would be ideal stuf to make it with and the spacer thickness obviously depends on you shock extension / travel , but thats the best way. Removing it "imo" is not a good idea as its there to provide rigidity to the chassis, its only bolted in because if it was welded in (ideal solution) you would never get the engine / gearbox in or out.

No probs, you could even do it with large thick washers. I think a full size plate would be best and it "seems" 10mm is the max normally needed.

Heres a piccy anyway

8 x M8 bolts 30mm long 1.25 pitch
8x M8 washers 2mm thick
8 x M8 exhaust bolt spacer tubes, 10mm deep

You can see the scuffs on the prop where its been catching the cross member

NB-support cross member with a jack-or itll hit you on the head
