Made these today, a few pictures of how they were made
Removed sills and used them as a template, drew round them on 40 x 80 box section to get the length and the radius at the ends
Decided that I wanted the ends of the sliders to taper back in towards the wheel arch rather than just have square ends for a neater finish so I cut a vee out of the back of the box section, about 100mm from the ends then bent them in and tacked
cut...
bend..
tack...
closed off the ends
welded up
make a bracket and drill for the front mounting at the bulkhead
best to fix the bracket to the bulkhead then when you fit up the box section you are sure its all o.k
position the box section and mark where the tubular outrigger at the rear will pass through for your jacking point if you want one, then cut out
fit your pipe through the rear outrigger, I made them about 500mm long then fit up the box
once your happy with the fit, tack on the front bracket and the pipe at the rear while still on the landy then remove for welding
the fixing at the inside end of the pipe can be a bolt welded into the end of the pipe or a washer for fitting a bolt later
you need a stopper welded to the tube
here's a few pics of them fitted
gives a neat finish round the arches, no cutting or butchering required
took them off again, will send them off for galvy I think.
Took all day to make them both, used 40 x 80 box, two lengths at 1500mm
two 500mm lengths of tube, 42mm o/d (think it's 1 3/8" bore)
a few other bits of scrap for brackets and stuff,
thats it!!!!
