As i understand it there are 2 types of td5 engine.

a 10p and a 15p. How can you ID either engines? There are numbers cast in the block and other marks.

the reason for this is the td5 csw has had a genuine replacement motor in 2009. the engine number looks stamped in by hand due to factory replacement engines don't have numbers. the engine number starts 22p?

How can a tell what engine i have in pieces at the Mo?
Need some parts, and i'm trying to fathom out how the small end bearing has failed on piston no. 4 after 39,000 miles!

The 90 has a boost box fitted and you can see alot of soot on 4 of the 5 pistons, piston 4 is clean, just wondering if the injectors faulty and has been overfuelling the piston causing the failure?

Quite enjoying the process now! Can't see it being ready for net weekend though.

As far as i know the 10P has serial numbers between 10P and 14P and the 15P between 15P and 19P..........on that logic yours could be a 15P, but there are some small differences too which i cant describe. If your engine still has the FPR on and it's the 3 pipes type then its a 15P, also if the EGR valve is there look at the vacuum connections, if there are two it's 15P....the 10P has a 2 pipe FPR and EGR with 1 vacuum pipe. I donno the code of the 100KW engine which LR used just between 1998 and 2002........ see this http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Car...ies-LANDROVER-DISCO-II-TD5-W0QQAdIdZ237622744 the 10P was fitted between 99 and 01 and the 15P between 01 and o5 and both have 102KW(according to autodata)
maybe this will help http://www.thelandroverclub.co.uk/Technical Specifications LR TD5.pdf

The TD5 engine numbers only went up to 19P there is no such thing as a 22P TD5 engine. Dont believe me then give Land Rover a call and ask for spare parts for a 22P engine.

Why do you think that factory replacement engines dont have engine numbers? All engines that come from the original manufacturer will have engine numbers properly stamped and spaced.

All genuine reconditioned engines will also carry the original engine number as the reconditioners wont want any identity issues regarding where the engine came from.

If you have no engine number or it has been ground off and "hand stamped" then I'd suspect it was to try and cover up the actual engine identity.

ok got the sump off and the bottom end on 4 has gone aswell...shells look nasty!

can sus this one out, anyone got any pics of a 10 / 15p engine?

As for the numbers they are definately there, and they start 22p! definately no grinding off of numbers on this one.

Ok head cast number HRC 2880.....early head!:smash:

what wally spends £4200 on an equally **** one they just took out!

I usually look at the fuel pressure regulator as they are different on the 10P and the 15P (The 10P engine has 2 internal fuel galleries in the cylinder head where as the 15P has only one)

More fettling than would have been viable when I changed my HG - Only head I could get for sensible money was a 15P one. Glad I did not go down that route now :)
