For a 200tdi Defender.
Here’s how ah did it…
First ah removed the bonnet by sticking it straight up and then with the help of my neighbour lifted it from the hinges…
Next ah removed the ‘snow cover’ to reveal the heater intake vent and removed it…
and then the snorkel ( if ye haven’t got a snorkel then carefully prise off the plastic air intake grille starting in the corners)…
Next ah removed the wheel arch spat by using a rivet to poke the wee pins that go through the plastic rivets holding it on. It might be a good idea to stick an old towel or summit on the ground to catch the wee bits as they fall out….
Next ah removed the washer bottle and bracket…
Then unclipped the air filter box and removed the rubber pipe from it to the air vent…
And then with a bit of messing about ah removed the plastic box behind the wing that the rubber air hose was fixed to and took the bolt out holding the top of the wing to the bulkhead…
If ye stick yer head in the wheel arch and look in the gap between the inner and outer wing, you will see 4 bolts holding the wing to the bulkhead. Ah used a long and a short extension bar on my socket to undo these. The top ones are a bit fiddly but ye can get them through the air vent…
Next ah stuck a spanner on one end of the bolt going through the inner wheel arch…
and using a socket with extensions again, reached over the top of the wing to hold the spanner and removed the bolt…
.. did the same with the other one near the front…
and then removed the two screws at the back of the wing where it fixes to the bracket on the bulkhead…
Back to the front of the bus..
Ah removed the radiator grille to get access to the four bolts holding the front panel to the wing…
Then ah took off the indicator and side light, head light and plastic trim…
to get access to the wiring. Ah undid all the connectors and the earth lead (noting what wires were what) and pulled the wiring out towards the bulkhead. (There’s a couple of clips that the wiring needs to be taken out of by just pushing it up through the top)…
Then it’s just a case of lifting the wing up from the bulkhead side and removing..
That’s it, job done.
Ah nearly forgot to mention the nut and bolt that needs removing from the sill cover and bracket that fits on the bottom of the wing
