Last night on the way home from my Archery club, I got the low coolant warning message....hmmmm checked that Tuesday when I did my bonnet cable (How To in the writing).....
Got home, smelled hot coolant - but it was 12.30am so it can wait til the morning....
This morning I top up the tank, and as it was dark couldn't see anything...take a punt and drive to work....only I didn't get that far, about a mile up the road, the warning sounds again, pull into the Golf Course Car Park and engine off, bonnet up.....tank empty, top hose stone cold, bottom of Rad is warm...hmmmmm
Temp gauge went immediatly from blue and shot up into the red, used the hidden menu to pull up the Coolant Temp reading..... -128degC
OK, I have a problem......go to start the car - won't start, ECU is getting the wrong Temp readings and as such is either shutdown to protect from over heating (Gauge reading) or using the wrong fuel map (-128degC reading) and refusing to start....
Load RAVE on laptop to find Temp sender....Rear L/H of Engine.....can't see it (Still dark at 6.50am) torch is crap....
Anywho....I turn the key and she struggles to fire....foot flat on the floor she fires up....quickly bonnet down, and high-tail it the mile back home before the engine cooks....
Get home, bonnet up engine off....steam trails from the Water Pump pulley area.....suspect Water Pump bearing/internal seal failure......internet resource suggests this is a common fail item on the L322 (Like everything else it seems)....a few deft phone calls to local LR Dealers....not a stock item but can be ordered £175 Including a £70 surcharge on exchange of old pump....not bad.....
Tried a local Autofactors, they have OEM on shelf for £68+VAT so around £75 ish....will check the part when I get there just to ensure.
So be prepared for a 2003 4.4 M62 V8 Water Pump Replacement 'How To'......![Eek! ](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
