Have you got a low level fuel warning light and the two wires to connect to a sender with the two terminals if so best option buy a new sender then all works as it should

If they are wired in series and the replacement has a broken wire it will stop both. If they are in parallel and one is short circuit it will also stop the both. Either way you would need a multimeter to test it.
