My FR2 was doing the same...reduce engine performance..randomly.. Ended up a hole in my intercooler hose, I did the fuel filter as well and it was still black billowing smoke taking off....ended up being the MAP SENSOR...its on the air...

Yes - as per your other post and the advice given, check your camshaft sensors first, before disappearing down bigger rabbit holes! A faulty cam sensor can cause starting issues, especially when the engine is warm.
