Last MOT was a pass with no advisories and the one before had a fail for something in the rear suspension. Nothing about transmission or rust.
Hope it was a proper MOT and not just a mechanic turning a blind eye for some extra cash...
Give mine its 6 monthly oil/filter change. Also did the turbo filter thingy and its seals and air filter.
Cleaned the EGR valve:
That was it before.
Also found this:
Coming off the EGR on the flexi. Anyone replaced theirs? Asbestos?

I must insist for the last time to measure the battery voltage WHILE CRANKING, the fact that the battery is new is irrelevant if there is a draw while cranking for some reason and the voltage drops more than 2V it will not start
Very much appreciated, both of you.
Would anyone like Dunsfold for example be able to shed any more light on this? What would a Heritage certificate tell me that we haven't already worked out?
All I can really find out it is the approximate build date was January. Unfortunately the Series 3 was still being produced until 1985 (although I don't know if that was at Solihull) so I doubt you'll be able to use the serial number from the vin...
Welcome. You have picked the right motor to learn mechanics, well advanced mechanics. All the best plus there will be plenty of help and assistance on here when you need it, don't be afraid to ask.

Thanks for the reply Sierraferry. I did initially try it without touching the throttle but it wouldn't fire at all. I then tried it with the throttle open which got it to fire but then took my foot off the peddle and it died instantly. The only...
Should have mentioned that last night. I've tried vin decoders but they only seem to list the last six digits as a "serial number". The online decoders I've used don't seem to be any more specific than that. Can you find more information?
My VIN...
+1 on the turbo hoses, can be a leak, it disconnected or sinply desintegrated. As she did have full power before loosing it again, maybe a leak or a loose hose. Had that on one of our other cars, also a turbo diesel engine.
For that price, I would have bought it without asking for permission! The new harnesses for my RRC cost more.
All the luck in the world is hereby wished! And congrats on the purchase!
As far as I'm led to believe it's positive pressure so this shouldn't be the case. Only other things I could think of relating to this were that the wastegate is seized from being parked up and not opening fully, or the pipe I fitted is...
Just got myself this 2003 L322 with 123k on the clock for £850.
MOT ran out at the beginning of the month but does still run under its own power. Trade seller said that the previous owner said that the gearbox can slip but I’m praying it just...
Blocked fuel pipe/pick up?
Could also run but would not pull top gears. Fitted an override pump(was on racer) & this would pull more fuel than the standard lift pump. Piece of wood in pipe had gone up it,fitted a series gauze on the pipe after
Fair enough, I understand your view, my problem atm is that I paid 50 euros and they sent me Britpart which cost 8 euros on Paddocks! Genuine are only 20e more on top for a price that is already crazy for some o rings... but I understand that...
Thank your for your input, indeed important information:
Its a Defender 110 from 2004.
And for the brakes its only the pads and the discs that needs to be replaced.
I swapped out my fabric seats for a set of leather from a very tidy V6 being scrapped. Front seats are heated! The fabric set is in very good condition.
