Well, back in October 2011, I stuck in a thread about the leak from my distributor pump, on a Series 3. I have now fixed it, and by the amount of views on the subject, I'm probably not the only person on the planet with this problem.
So, this is what I did;
I did eventually find a manual for the pump, it seems that the old diesel taxi's are almost the same. (If anybody wants a copy, PM me, and I'll e-mail it). I didn't remove the pump for this job, it didn't seem worth the effort, and was fairly easy.
Remove the throttle arm, and the stop arm, and undo the two nuts that hold the cover on. Give it a tap, and it should pop open. There is about a mug full of diesel within.
Anyway, carefully pull it away from the pump. There is a spring attached to the throttle arm linkage, either push the arm through, or unhook the spring, but beware if you do that the little clip under the plate will fall off.
I couldn't find mine, and had to make a new one:doh:
That's it, easy so far , now, once you have the two pivot rods pushed out of the cover, there are two O ring seals on each, mine seemed to be square in section, and had gone really hard and brittle, but I replaced them with normal O rings, and they work perfect. The manual said to put lithium grease between them, I only had a blue grease, really sticky stuff, and I used that .
Now, that's it, leak sorted.
Reassembly is a little fiddly, it's tricky getting the stop arm lined up, and the bar likes to fall out , but tis do-able. Don't forget to reconnect the spring, mine was in the middle hole, and I suggest maybe to take a photo when you have the lid open, just so you get it back where it was.
My pump no longer leaks, and works perfect, so I'm dead chuffed, and it cost me bugger all to fix.
One thing I will mention, when you tighten the two nuts holding the cover on, be carefull, they snap , I broke one of mine and had to make a new one. So, not too tight fella's..........
