Would you have diagnosed this?...

Solved it myself fortunately. But here were the symptoms (on a TD5 70K miles, 2" lift applied a few months/ thousand miles back)...

• About a week ago notice a faint knocking when moving.
• Over a few short journeys the noise got much louder. So much that as I arrrived at a garage to pick up my other car which was being fixed, the mechanics were stood outside staring like meercats.
• The knocking seemed to ease under breaking and acceleration.
• It was difficult to pinpoint the noise when driving - e.g. not sure if it was gearbox or corners
• There was no significant vibration in either the vehicle or through steering/brake pedal etc.

What do you think it was?

Hmm, that does nicely match all the symptoms. It aint got a boot

Yep front wheel nuts loose. I expected more vibration. Cheap to fix though!
