Up **** creek.
Just for fun: What would it take to make a completely rust proof Disco? I suppose you could Galvanise the steel chassis, floor, roof, inner wings sills etc but what else would need to be done?

That...

Galv body on Galv chassis, has been talked about before.

Personal dream of mine.

I'd be looking at dipping all the Ali panels too, for that ultra glare-tastic finish :)

yeah I thought it had been covered before, I did a search but found lots of other stuff including a massive thread about Disco owners Vs Gaylander owners (Very mental! and funny) but not much more. could you stick us a link to the previous rust proof thread cheers.

Yeah, you'd ruin the alloy by trying to galvanise it lol.

But you could galv chassis, spray galv all flat steel then just add alloy outer panels with a poly sealant applied between all areas of steel/alloy contact.

Should work for a long while lol!

"steel/alloy contact."

you`d have to be careful not to create electrolisis reaction between disimular metals....

does ali not corode?
maybe thats why we spray yellow self etching primer onto all the airframe parts we produced over the years eh?

When assembling joins on other ali work I do, I put a bead of polyurethane sealant between the 2 panels so they are not touching. This stops the electrolysis.

That was one question I was wondering when I originally posted-about the fixing screws/bolts etc- you cant galv them and you couldnt use plastic ones, And with regards to electrolysis: The reaction only happens when both metals in contact are wet right? Why not make them so they cant get wet eg: rustproofing/hammerite/piant/underseal/waxoil/wax seal/ used oil etc? But obviously easier said than done.

And brake pipes: could you use stainless steel piping?

Why didnt LR make the Disco with an Ally roof and floor aswel?

(This is the part where someone sais "well obviously blahblahblah answer you would only know if you had spent your misspent youth learning every consievable fact about LR, electrolosys and automobiles instead of learning about alcohol, partys, party prescriptions and VERY loose women!)

Up until I joined this forum I knew very little/nothing about mechanics and have basically learned everything I know from you knowledgable bunch of reprobates So please enlighten me gentlemen as I will be the 1st to admit I know very little, hence the maybe obvious questions. (sorry got out of bed the wrong side this morning - will be better after work:D)

there is scientific evidence that if you put stainless bolts into normal steel there is a chemical reaction that makes the normal metal rust quicker around the stainless
