Worth new clutch

This may sound stupid, but can other people hear this whine? My L Series was making a funny sound. My family could not hear it, 2 garages could not hear it. But the 2nd one I instructed to change the cambelt anyway. End result was a louder funny sound that nobody else could hear!

That was probably getting on for 10 years ago, which probably means it's due a cambelt!

Assuming it is a real sound...

If they did the clutch, the IRD would have come out.

Did they replace the oil in the IRD?

My wife can hear it too so pretty sure it’s a real sound, just difficult to pinpoint where it’s coming from while driving.
It’s worse at 45-50 mph and doesn’t change if the clutch is pushed in or a gear changed. Over 50 mph is quieter or maybe just less noticeable due to the generally increasing noise level.
I don’t know about an oil change in the IRD but will ask tomorrow. Thanks.

Cheers.
The bill has ‘gearbox / diff oil’ at £40+vat, could that be it?
We probably won’t be back to the garage that changed the clutch, it went completely while 50 miles away from home but they were recommended by a local who stopped to help and the recovery truck driver.
Plus they were the only garage in the area willing to tackle a Freelander clutch! (Or at least out of the half dozen or so I called.) Perhaps that should have persuaded me not to bother having it done, except it’s a great car that shouldn’t be scrapped due to a ‘service’ item.
