I've had a quick google but can't find anything. Found out the other day that if the lights are on and you take the key out then the engine keeps running until you take your foot of the brake.

Is this by design and if so, what is the purpose?????

It's a 52 plate 110.
 
Wiring fault! Not by design.. Are lights on side or main beam? Does it have to be a combination of side lights and brake lights, or can it be either? :confused:
 
Both side or dipped cause the issue. I haven't tried it with full beam. I noticed that in the dark with no lights on, pressing the brake pedal causes some of the dash dials to light up slightly.
 
I had that problem with mine when I first got it, also when I pressed the brakes the headlights came on.
The problem was the wires were rubbing together behind the rear cross membrer on the drivers side.
 
could be a earth fault if its casuing dash lights to light dim.

You need to get a multimeter out and start checking things out!

Sounds like it could be dangerous if you cant stop the engine or worse if the brake pedal kills the engine while your driving along!
 
I've just had a visual inspection and all the wires I can see are in flexible conduit which all looks sound. I wouldn't know where to start with a multimeter :(
 
Difficult to diagnose remotely but can try and help to localise to a possible area. Most likely a poor earth feeding back power to ignition supply.
With the engine running and the ignition off ( ie fault condition on), try removing fuses F10 -F15, one at a time to see if engine stops. These fuses are on the central fuseboard in front of gearlever, lower LHS. (Fuse legend on rear of cover) One of these should allow the engine to stop. Let us know which one? Good Luck!

Hey Saxman, do you mean it had the wrong fittings in? The lights on mine have been changed to NAS spec so could it be the wrong bulb holders!
 
Just pulled all the fuses and No 5 stops it. How do I trace that one :( I'll try removing the stop lights to see if that allows it to turn off.

Fuse 5 has the word stop written on it, indicators, temp guage and some light icon but I'm not sure which lights it is.
 
I'm only getting tail lights with the lights on and no brake lights and with the and with the lights off the brake lights work. The bulb holders do have twin poles. So as it stands we can't use it in the dark.

It's by the gear stick. There is a single row on the left and two rows on the right. It's on the top row on the right.

OK, that's fuse 13. It feeds the stop lights. Do you have a multimeter? You need to check the earthing on the stop and tail lights. The earth is common to both lights, being a dual filament bulb. One of these earths must be dodgy (High resistance), allowing the battery voltage to feedback to the ignition circuits to hold the engine on. If you don't have a meter, then try running a wire from a known good earth to each of the bulb holder earths in turn. (They are earthed separately). Good luck!
 
Am I looking for voltage or resistance. Is it a case of one prob on earth point and one on the bulb holder.

I've managed to get one brake light to operate. The bulb wasn't in correctly and may have been across both poles. The spring at the bottom is broken so I'll get another bulb holder tomorrow if the dealer is open.
 
Looking for a good earth at bulb holder, ie low resistance. The faulty bulb holder does sound promising though. Let us know how it goes...
 
All sorted. Two faults, one was a dodgy bulb holder which I replaced and got one brake light working. The other had both filaments lit when the lights were on so I checked the wiring. One was black/green/red and the other was red/green/black. I changed the wiring on the duff side and all is well. :)
