wont start

my 1997 2.5 tdi disco wont start
after waiting for the glow plug light to go out and turning the key I get a click and nothing else.
It wouldnt turn off a couple of days ago and I had to keep turning the key , eventualy the bugger stopped!!!
I just bought the bloody thing 4 new snow tyres for chritmas!!!
anyone had a similar problem or knows how to fix it please !!!!!
battery and all earths are fine.

Is that a click at the starter motor or ignition switch. The switch could be fooked, if its at the starter then the solonoid is stuck and might work if you give it a tap with a hammer whilst the switch is held in the start position. I'm sure the spider cuts all feeds so you would get nothing, but if you test the small wire on the starter it should get a feed from the switch when you turn it to start.

If you have a jump lead you can take a live from the possy on the battery to that terminal on the starter and it should crank over, watch you dont touch any other bits tho or it will spark like fook.

The screws came loose on mine and it had that same fault, take the cover off and check, if it aint tight against the lock then the key cant turn it.

fixedit it was the small push fit cable it had some how disconected itself .
