My 1984 110 fitted with a 300tdi engine just wont start,Have had starter motor re-conditioned fitted a new battery and checked and cleaned all the wires but still no joy,Can anyone give me any advice...:(

Thanks for the advice will check for all of that,The engine is not turning over,It all seemed fine a couple of days again then it wouldnt start 1st thing in the morning but would start about 4 hours later,Then yesterday same again took for a run stopped engine for 5 minutes then it would not re-start so had to have it towing back home:mad:

Ok is there a click sound from the starter / ignition relay when you turn the key to start position?
Ie theres a click but the engine doesnt turn?
This happened on mine and it was fixed by simply cleaning the smaller lead connection on the starter motor solenoid.

There is a clicking noise but nothing else,All leads to starter motor were cleaner before fitting starter motor,Could it be anyting to do with the Ignition?

Also the Postive lead on battery seems to be getting warm and also moved on trying to start..

The click means that the starter is being switched. The hot lead means that a LOT of power is travelling down that wire. It sounds like your starter is stuck. Try rocking the vehicle forward and backward in case it's stuck in the ring gear. If that doesn't work remove the starter, check it and, if working re-fit but ensure that it's lined up and bolted tightly to the engine.

Put it in gear before you rock it otherwise it's a bit pointless.

The small wire to the solenoid on top of starter may have frayed and broken off its connector giving intermittent starts and then nothing.
