Freelander 2003 td4 Just driven back to Spain noticed on way back using a little oil, never done this before,
Yesterday drove out of house on incline heavy gray smoke that cleared under heavy acceleration turning back to house slight miss fire 2-3 seconds then cleared. Back in drive bonnet open notice oil dripping from intercooler pipe intercooler full of oil, turbo seals leaking???

Arrange to run car up to workshop this morning ready for monday morning and car wont start suggestions please
Cant do much myself as back in wheel chair can only stand for short periods but can supervise Spanish mechs

Spanish RAC came round car started with easy start clouds of grey un burnt fuel and rattling from top of engine, he seems to think it is injector.

it should not be started with the turbo seals leaking or you might find you can not stop it, and it uses all the oil out of your engine and then a big BANG! get the turbo checked out first.

Turbo change done on drive using Hippo ramps two and a half hours start to finish with two people IRD left in place.
Number 1 injector looks to be problem now, have ordered Bosch reconditioned unit guaranteed 1 year £99.99

well done the only way to stop the engine if the turbo goes and it is using the engine oil to keep going is to stop the air getting in and that would be to shove a cloth or put a plastic bag over the air intake but by that time it might all be over.

The Ukrainian mechanic friend of my son who helped out today is popping in tomorrow to do a compression test. As looking at the old turbo the vanes have come into contact with the body vanes not broken or chipped but tips look polished worn and slight scraping on body bit worried now!. Metal grit in cylinders???

Couldn't you just stick it into 3rd or 4th and let the clutch out with foot on brake? Or would this just break something?

highest gear, you *could* break something but if you don't then you'll destroy the engine.. so nothing to lose imo
