Wolf wheels - tubed or tubeless?

Can anyone tell me if these are genuine wolf wheels, and if so are they tubed or tubeless please?

When I bought the defender, I was told they were genuine, but after a recent puncture has shown they are fitted with tubes, I’m beginning to wonder if they are a tubed copy?

Wolf rims come as tubed and tubeless.

The tubeless can be run with a tube though

I thought the genuine wolf rims were tubeless only?

There are numbers, but I can’t make them out without removing at least some paint. I will have to have a look in the light tomorrow.

There are two types of Wolf wheels, very early ones are tubed, later versions and milirary versions are tubeless.
The part number will help, but tubeless rims have an additional ridge on each side of the rim to keep the bead in place, yours does not seem to have them, based on that I would suggest that they are tubeless.

I have the tubed wolfs fitted to my series, means I can repair punctures myself. The only way to tell for certain is to check the part numbers or remove a tyre although from memory there is a slight indent visible on the outside where the additional ridge is on the tubed version.

I like the idea of replacing tubes myself. I have helped several Reccy Mechs change inner tubes in the army, so I’m no stranger to it. The problem seems to be finding a tyre that won’t destroy the tubes (tubed tyre) in 235/85/16. Any suggestions?

7.50's are basically the same size as that and you are more likely to find tubes tyres in 7.50 size than metric. I run Michelin xzl's which are suitable for both tubed and tubelss, the xcl's are the same and from memory so are the xpc's. Think Avon range masters are also suitable for tubes, but you would have to check.
 
From the thickness of the centre steel shown in the ventilation holes I would say they are definitely genuine Wolf rims, the copies are usually made of much thinner steel. As others have said genuine wolf rims were available in both tubed and tubeless variants.
 
The copy Chinese wolf rims are very thick at the wheel mount flange, requiring longer studs on the hubs if you want to have stud protruding beyond the wheel nut.

I can confirm that the rangemaster is suitable for tubes, I ran them for years on my series.

Does that on the genuine ones aswell, unless the Chinese ones are thicker steel.

The army looked into it and it isn’t an issue, I can post the technical bulletin later aswell.
 
That's right, doesn't matter, but looks odd.
Zeus do the extended studs, and they look well.

Point is that the Chinese copies are quite decent and a viable option.

Thanks for taking the time to do that. Family time has taken priority over the defender these last 2 days, but back to work I go, so I will take a look tomorrow. See if I can work out where my numbers are and what they say,
 
Just to confirm, I also have genuine wolf rims, and they are marked as tubeless.
And running them on the original (short) studs, never a problem for more than 15 years.
 
Somewhere on the forum there is the army recommendation regarding the shorter studs. There was just an increased torque value needed but I cannot remember what it was.

No worries bud, the number and text was near the valve. Might be obscured by paint if they have had a few coats so might need a wire brush to find
