Well....

I was driving down the M1 for the first time t'other day and noticed that when I was doing about 65-ish the rev counter needle started wobbling.

I was wondering if anyone might know why?

It had a new alternator in January which had an effect on the response and accuracy of the rev counter.

I rarely take it about 60-ish and hardly ever on dual carriageways/motorways so not sure how long its been like it!

Please help :)

The rev counter is operated by the alternator via a thin black (iirc) wire which comes loose and causes your symptoms - remake the connector.

What thebiglad says .. the spade connector gets crudded up, so needs pulling off, cleaning, and re-making the connection. Makes a world of difference.

Sorry to drag up and old thread, although that means I am searching - do I get a gold star? no? ok....

Anyway, my rev counter is doing this too, so I will check the wire in question, but would a connection issue also cause the heater blower to cut out intermitantly and the lights to dim? Or is the alternator on its way out?

The rev counter is the most frequent and least important problem, the blower cuts in and out a bit but less frequently, and I have only noticed the lights once.

Thanks as always, need the old girl working as best she can, especially with the possiblilty of a long cold winter ahead...

:D
