I stuck the logo off the windscreen on a few forums & hey presto somebody came up with the answer, the cross is suppose to represent crossed chemical vessels an unofficial logo of 27 nbc reaction force they might well be involved in the hunt for weapons of mass detruction that is now happening in Syria.
They did the same in Iraq & afghanastan

thanks for the advice. I have got the FC wheels now and have found a few sources of 9 x 16 tyres. You mentioned that Bar treads are terrible to drive on, how so ? Uncomfortable, noisy, difficult to control or what ?
I have always liked the look of bar treads but if they are inpractical, I'll broaden my search (Petlas 9 x 16s looks good, but are expensive).

Thanks

I've not driven a land rover with them but have driven old military trucks when the used to have them. Also driven old tractors with them. They are just a really old fashioned design. I remember them being not that great in the wet and not amazing off road (compared to the newer styles that the army started to fit as I was leaving). Your likely to be going a lot faster in a defender than I was driving trucks. I certainly would want to use them.

To me bar grips dont tend to have much tread in contact with road when used on the road

Erm you know what i mean though. :D

They look much more suited to uneven ground where those big recesses can work.
