Hi all

Wondering if anyone has or knows of the correct way to wire in an ignition switch and start button formy 110 project - Rover V8 carbed. Fuel pump is already in place with a switch so all i want it to do is 'arm' with the ignition switch on and start when the button pressed in (no keys) - then turn off when the ignition switch is flicked off. I have the panel just a lack of knowledge of which wires go where... am i right in thinking the brown and red (one large wire and one thin wire) are 12v and the white is to the starter? these would be the ones to place on the button?

many thanks

Ross

Tiz easy. Remove the wire from the back of the ignition switch which goes to the starter solenoid and connect it to the starter button. Take another wire from ignition on to the other side of the starter button. Simples :D

hi there

but how would i stop the engine ?

also would all the lights have power?

The same way you do now.
We are only talking about a start button.

Maybe i mis-understood, you do have an existing ignition switch, dont you.

hi

no the system has no ignition switch - so the idea is to have a start panel, which i have, with a starter button and 2 simple throw switches - one is connected to the fuel pump and the other i want to switch on all aux functions as well as arm the starter button and then when the 2 switches are on the button can be pressed and start the engine.

Is it as simple as moving all the other wires other than the red/white soleniod wire over the the ignition switch with one terminal being the 12v brown and the other having the remaining wires - then bridge a wire accross to the other terminal on the starter button (with the red/white one on the other side of the terminal). then when the switch is flicked on power goes to the other wires and the starter button is armed ready to press and start the landy. then when the ignition swtch is flcked off, the engine goes off as well as all the aux bits?

hope this is clear? (as mud probably)

think of how an ignition switch works and just replace that.

all you need is an off/on/on switch and a starter button.
if you use an old lightswitch (off/on/on) to do the off/aux/ign on functions that will do fine.

until someone steals your motor .

i did mine from a button in the cab right to the starter motor but if u do it so u dnt touch ur starting system as it is and just get 2 long wires going to the starter then just join the two on each terminal on the starter and that way if any one brakes in they cnt start it without the key but u got a push button if u ever wnt it

Surely the ability not to lock the stearing makes theft just a bit easier - i'd make sure the insurance company knows about this mod as they may not cover it for theft.
