Hi Guys, Im looking to wire a stereo into my 1991 200tdi Defender..i may be wrong but i believe that i can connect it via the wiring that feeds the cigarette lighter & rear wash wipe ? The radio requires connections for battery (yellow), Power control (blue/white), Ignition (Red), Car light control switch (Orange/white, is this needed?)..all these wire colours relate to the radio.

My cigarette lighter has three feeds, Purple, Black, red/white... there also appears to be a non connected green feed..

Wash wipe has a number of feeds, Red, Green x2, Red Green, Black/Green x2......

is anyone able to make any sense out of the above ? and tell me which is to go where ;-/ sorry, wiring & me dont work well together!

Yes you can use those wires.
Can't remember the colours but you really need a multimeter ( you'll find it really useful for fault finding) or a bulb holder with two wires ( live and earth).
A bit of probing with your tester of choice will soon show which landy wire is permanent live( for radio memory) switched live ( for the radio itself) ie- only becomes live when the ign switch is on and stays live when engine is running but goes dead when ign is off ie- no dash warning lights on. This stops you leaving the radio on with the keys out and flattening your battery overnight .

I wouldn't take the radio/speakers from the cigar/rear wash wipe. Radios should be wired 1. direct from battery via a 5A fused supply for its battery memory backup, and 2. via switched ignition + 5A fuse for main radio power. Or, if your wiring loom has a pre-wired auxiliary supply wire from there.

Land Rover quality of wiring is dire at the best of times so best for clean new wiring + when fault finding piggy-backing off another supply causes much havoc.

The wiring for the rear wash wipe is complex, i'd ignore that if I were you.
The fag lighter has a feed when the ignition is on, an earth and a feed that comes on when the lights are on (which illuminates the green ring).
Depending upon the type of ignition switch you have you may not have a 'aux' position ... so you will only get power when the ignition is on (and when the engine is running).

The radio's yellow wire is typically connected to a live feed and the red to the 'aux'. Black is ground/earth.
Not sure about the blue/white - perhaps it too should be comnnected to the aux ??
The orange/white can be connected to ther red/white on the fag lighter, that means that the raio would 'light up' when you put the lights on (?)
@Flossie's advice is good.
