Wire chafing - Causing sensor failure

I was told today that the wire loom has chafed against the chassis, causing the NOX sensor to fail. Im thinking this is more of a design fault than a wear and tear issue. The wiring loom has chafed because it was not routed in such a way as to prevent it rubbing/ chafing against car chassis / exhaust system. The damaged electrical loom could have resulted in a fire putting myself and children at risk.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

Land Rover like other vehicle manufacturers do in their best to ‘design out’ chafing in areas u describe, plus install additional protection to stop such issues if they should happen elsewhere in the vehicle, and thats how the vehicles leave the factory.
However down the line any thing can happen depending on the use of the vehicle.
It looks as it’s quite accessible, so do you just leave checks for such possible issues to the garage that does the annual service and/or to the MOT test inspection?

Which Land Rover do you have? Was it a NOX sensor (diesel) or O2 sensor (petrol) wiring?
My Disco 2 had the O2 sensor wiring rubbing and shorting out on the driveshaft. It kept blowing the fuse in the engine bay.

It is a NOX sensor for a diesel. Disco 2. It’s only 4 years old, we hardly use it.
 
If it's a D2 then it's considerably older than 4 years old, if you are saying the sensor was only fitted 4 years ago then that is a fitting error rather than a design error as they certainly didn't rub through in 4 years from factory build.
