Obviously I'm not as quick off the mark as some 
The puller didn't arrive until Friday and meantime I did try all the suggestions for freeing the arms and they weren't budging. First chance today and even the puller took some effort to free them off.
Top tip about the cup hooks btw, that made getting the clips out a breeze, many thanks!
I can now see why no drivers side motion, the linkage arm is just resting on top of what looks like a rubber cup, same on the other side too. Explains why it's popped off. Having had a look through the forums I'm probably going to invest a couple of repair clips to hold things in place.
