The little rubber seals on my windscreen wiper spindles are perishing. They're the ones that form a seal between the moving part that the wiper arm goes on and the stationary part that goes through the bulkhead. A look in my parts catalogue and a quick Google doesn't show them for sale separately. They come as part of a wheelbox kit, and there are plenty of spindle adaptors, but not the little rubber things separately. Does anyone know what I can buy?

No, they're a kind of stepped tube with an internal diameter of around 10mm at one end and 13-14 mm at the other.

When mine were leaking as a (surprisingly long lasting) temporary fix I smeared a little rtv inside them and some clingfilm around the spindle to stop it sticking.

Lasted for months until I changed the wheelboxes

I've had similar thoughts about a bit of sealant and sticky tape. But given the number of people on here with esoteric technical interests I thought someone might know of a component that would do instead. I've been looking at rubber reducer couplers for sale on line but haven't come up with anything the right size yet.

Had a look at mine and see what you mean now. I was thinking of where the wheelbox meets the bulkhead.

I only replaced mine about a year ago and they don't look too sturdy.

You could always use self amalgamating tape.

Yes indeed gentlemen, there are lots of possible improvisations. I was after a source for the actual rubber bits though . . . .

Jolly good. This is the kind of repartee we expect.

I thought I'd give it a try on here because last year Huffhuff located some little rubber tubes of the kind that go on TD5 starter motors, which didn't seem to be available otherwise. The item in question is a little grommet/reducer and I'm sure Land Rovers can't be the only thing it's used on. Some years ago I had the windscreen wipers fail on a Volkswagen because water had got down the tubes the spindles go through and rusted them solid. So stuffing grease in and putting a rubber thing over the top seems like a good idea.
